Attorney, Real Estate Leasing

SUMMARY
This newly created position will oversee the legal aspects of the company’s outpatient medical leasing platform. We are looking for an energetic self-starter who will think creatively to implement best practices within the legal leasing side of our business. While this role requires a strong leasing background, the role is not limited to simply negotiating lease documents on a daily basis. Rather this role requires a mix of legal and business skills and the ability to work with cross functional teams. The position can be based in either our Toledo or Dallas office locations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the company’s legal needs for all leasing across the outpatient medical platform.
Streamline, oversee, and maintain processes for the preparation, review and execution of leases and lease related documents.
Manage outside counsel in handling preparation of leases and lease related documents.
Work with asset management, property management and accounting OM teams on leasing issues affecting these teams.
Provide legal support on leases related to acquisitions and dispositions of assets.
Responsible for understanding, owning and revising Welltower’s space lease form and other lease forms utilized in our business.
Create documents and processes to assist the internal leasing team with lease document compliance.
Handle lease negotiations for key leases or key health system clients.
Provide general assistance with lease related projects as needed.

TRAVEL
Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Law degree (J.D.) is required.
Admission in good standing to the Bar and licensed (may include corporate status) in OH or TX.
4-7 years of experience as a real estate attorney at a law firm or in house, with a strong background in leasing.
Experience in medical office leasing preferred.
Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
