Role Purpose & Responsibilities Purpose As a member of Housing Families’ Development Team, the Senior Grant Writer reports directly to the Director of Grants & Contract Management. The Senior Grant Writer will work with the Development Team, CEO, Program Directors, and Staff to conceptualize, research, develop, write and edit grant proposals for funding. Housing Families works with state agencies, corporations, foundations, and individual donors to secure funding for agency programs and projects.

Responsibilities Research and write proposals to state agencies, corporations, foundations, and individual donors to meet annual budget goal of $600,000 in grant revenue.

Maintain a direct portfolio and manage some relationships with foundations.

Maintain and execute an annual calendar that identifies and tracks proposal and grant reporting deadlines.

Conduct research on potential funding sources, qualify prospects, and develop and maintain relationships with external agencies.

Identify and engage new funding opportunities to increase current grant portfolio by 20%.

Facilitate and manage grant submission process, including drafting required attachments.

Manage Raiser’s Edge database for grants including maintaining record information, gift entry, and proposal documentation.

Prepare grant reports and updates in accordance with grantor stipulations and the nonprofit’s reporting requirements.

Write content for annual reports, social media sites and other reports, as required.

Assist Director of Grants & Contracts in producing grant revenue projections for Finance and Leadership.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Grants & Contract Management.

Excellent attention to detail, particularly in grammar in written communication

Excellent time management, with an ability to handle multiple projects and to meet deadlines

Demonstrated excellent writing ability, and good verbal communication skills

Ability and comfort in interpreting data and synthesizing research in order to demonstrate need for non-profit interventions

An interest in the homelessness and housing sectors in the United States and understanding of alignment with Housing Families’ mission

An understanding of and interest in the principles of Community Centric Fundraising and ethical storytelling to root our fundraising in racial and economic justice

Qualifications/Requirements Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or work experience in related discipline

4-6 years of experience in grant writing in a non-profit setting

Experience working with people from broadly diverse ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds

Proficient with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, and ability to quickly learn new software and tracking systems.

Eligibility Requirements Ability to form strong interpersonal relationships with people from diverse backgrounds

Must be willing to work in Metro Boston/North Shore and have reliable transportation.

Must be willing to work 9am – 5pm on Monday through Friday with some flexibility

Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

Must be 18 years or older

Must be fluent in English

Must be able to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background check

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift to 30 pounds at a time walking up and down flights of stairs

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer
