Assistant Director, First Year Experience

The Assistant Director is integral to a team that provides programming, support, and communication to encourage the successful transition of all first-year students to Tulane University. Specifically, this position provides the strategic direction and oversight of the first-year seminar, a one credit, mandatory, interdisciplinary course. The Assistant Director recruits, hires, and develops 130 faculty, advances the curricular course elements and assessment, and supports the faculty in their work. This position is responsible for creating a faculty-student mentor program relating to orientation and transition initiatives. Lastly, this position supervises two professional staff members over the seminar peer mentor program and the experiential components of the seminar.
•Working knowledge of standard applications (Word, Excel, Access).
•Ability to manage projects and plan successful events in line with an overall mission towards student success.
•Understanding of, and commitment to, assisting students in their transition to college.
•Knowledge of effective strategies for programmatic assessment.
•Ability to foster a collaborative environment across organizational lines with a variety of constituents.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present information to a variety of audiences.
•Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of directly related work experience.
OR
•High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 7 years of directly related work experience.
•Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Development, or related field.
•Demonstrated experience with initiatives supporting the successful transition of traditional-aged first-year college students.
•Demonstrated commitment to building programs and services with diverse student groups in mind.
•Proven student-centered and customer-service oriented professionalism.
•Experience developing and implementing assessment and evaluation in achieving continuous programmatic improvements.
