City of Hope National Medical Center (COH), a world leader in cancer research, treatment, and prevention, is seeking candidates for their Executive Director, Nursing, HEM/HCT . One of only 57 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S., COH has been ranked among the nations Best Hospitals in cancer by U.S. News & World Report for over a decade. The Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research Center has ranked COH as an overperforming transplant center, and the only U.S. transplant center with this recognition for over a decade.
COHs growing system includes its main Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern CA, a new cancer center in Orange County (OC), CA, which opened in 2022, a new hospital in OC set to open in 2025, and City of Hope Atlanta, City of Hope Phoenix, and City of Hope Chicago. COH, a Magnet-designated organization, brings a uniquely integrated model to patients, spanning cancer care, research and development, academics and training, and innovation initiatives. Research and technology developed at COH have been the basis for numerous breakthrough cancer medicines.
The Executive Director, Nursing, HEM/HCT is responsible for creating a healthy work environment that supports staff engagement, professional development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The HEM/HCT service line includes a 36-bed Transplant Unit, an 18-bed Transplant Unit, a 36-bed Hematology Unit, a 26-bed Hematology Unit (22 permanent beds with 4 flex beds), 3 outpatient Hematology Clinics, the Day Hospital, Transplant Coordinators, and MUD Coordinators. The incumbent will have strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and the ability to influence, implement, and manage change. Responsible for a total of 414 staff members.
The Executive Director, Nursing, HEM/HCT works collaboratively to:
Ensure strategic programmatic leadership.
Help COH turn innovative ideas into powerful new treatments.
Support shared governance and shared decision-making.
Facilitate team-building interactions and establish collaborative relationships with COH physicians/APPs.
Support the design and delivery of patient care based on the latest evidence, focusing on quality and safety.
Qualifications:
Bachelors and Masters degrees, one of which must be in Nursing.
Minimum of 10+ years nursing experience and 7+ years in nursing leadership.
A change agent with the ability to use systems thinking and to inspire as well as coach others to be successful.
National Certification in Administration. Current California license required or within 6 months of hire.
Clinical and progressive management/leadership experience in an oncology setting, preferably Hematology.
Proven track record of success in a union organization preferred.
