Job: High School Principal & Athletic Director High School Principal & Athletic Director The High School Principal who will also serve as the Athletic Director is a strong leader who creates and maintains conditions for a high level of organizational and instructional efficiency and effectiveness. Creates a positive school environment by building rapport with students and implementing school policy in a fair and equitable manner. Directs and coordinates educational, administrative, and co-curricular activities. Is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of athletic activities. To include developing and managing the department’s budget, hiring coaches, and scheduling, coordinating with other schools and complying with CHSAA. A successful Athletic Director should be dedicated, meticulous in their work and passionate about helping athletes and coaches reach their full potential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned

Staff evaluation, supervision, and in-service.

Academic, activity, and athletics scheduling.

Student attendance and discipline.

Formulating and monitoring program goals.

Management of Co-Curricular budget and all athletic activities.

Develops and evaluates educational and Co-curricular programs to ensure conformance to State and School Board standards.

Provides teachers with the materials and professional development necessary for their success. Is directly involved in the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.

Develops and ensures the academic schedule and curriculum meets the needs of students for post-secondary education and/or the workforce.

Communicates well to carry out established policies, program goals, and objectives.

Works with counselors and parents in early intervention of problem behaviors.

Involves teachers in the design and implementation of important decisions and policies.

Recognizes and rewards individual and school accomplishments and acknowledges failures.

Monitors the effectiveness of school practices and their impact on student learning.

Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, community organizations, and other schools.

Evaluates and supervises the coaching staff. Maintains CHSAA eligibility documents and keeps coaches current with CHSAA requirements.

Represents Custer County High School at conferences and CHSAA meetings.

Schedules and coordinates the logistics of athletic events.

Develops and implements guidelines governing the conduct of athletic activities.

Fosters good school-parent relations by maintaining communications relative to CHSAA rules and regulations as well as school athletics policy.

The above performance responsibilities are not all inclusive and may be altered or added to by the Principal, Superintendent, or School Board.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages classroom teachers, teacher’s aides, and support staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master's degree (or working toward a Master’s Degree) from an accredited college or university; and a valid Colorado Educator License with appropriate administrative endorsement. Five years of successful teaching experience is preferred.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: The work environment is technology driven. Custer County Public Schools expects staff to meet reasonable expectations in the use of computers and other technology. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to reply to an email with multiple questions and/or topics. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to public groups, and/or the Board of Education.

REASONING ABILITY : Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with the variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Must have a valid Colorado Educator License with appropriate administrative endorsement.
