The Team

In partnership with leaders across the organization, the Information Technology team supports the development of technology infrastructure. As an organization, OHS is heavily reliant on technology to improve processes, increase the sustainability of the organization, and to ensure that the best tools are available and secure. As an organization, OHS never stays still and is focused on continuously improving its technology infrastructure to better serve the needs of the organization.

The Position

As Director, Information Technology, you will design, deploy, and manage the technology services necessary to power the core of the agency. You will create a future-focused and effective technological ecosystem to inspire the creativity of staff throughout the agency that depend on technology being performant and secure. You will deliver a world-class information technology environment powering cutting-edge solutions. You will collaboratively partner with and influence leaders to optimize information technology resources and integrate information technology practices into both routine and non-routine processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

With input from leadership, develop and deploy a multi-year IT strategy, objectives, and accompanying programs.

Provide IT consultation to understand the training needs of all assigned business areas, maintaining an appropriate level of organizational literacy to be able to substantively contribute to the success of the business based on its strategy.

Oversee the implementation of IT processes and systems as a project manager or as the manager of the staff overseeing project management.

Develops and oversees information technology customer service, customer relations, and customer education policies, programs, and activities.

Develops and maintains organizational communications such as intranet bulletin boards and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of information technology events and resources.

In partnership with the broader Finance and Administration team, support managers throughout the organization in navigating large-scale changes to information technology systems, including financial impacts, necessary facilities alterations, and coordination with multiple agencies.

Evaluate and monitor information technology projects and systems to ensure success; follow-up to confirm technology objectives are met.

Conducts annual security assessments and ensure that processes are in place to support the success of the organization.

Administers spending against the departmental budget.

Ensure that information technology staff maintain continuous education in the latest standards and practices that apply to the organization.

Help create a culture that fosters a high level of staff trust by celebrating the open-door policy and being a model of our values; provide coaching and advice to leadership and managers, as needed.

Serves as a primary contact for out of state emergency and disaster related events when IT services are required in a response.

Works with OHS leadership to develop and implement strategies to enhance OHS capabilities and reputation as a national leader in emergency and disaster response.

Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Reports Directly To : Chief Financial Officer

Often Engages Directly With : Internal and external stakeholders and team members from across the organization. Supervisory Responsibility: IT Project Management, IT Helpdesk, and Systems Administrators.

Minimum of 8 years of professional expertise and experience in information technology.

Leadership through influence and rapport building. Ability to collaborate with others, listen to and recognize different perspectives.

Independent thinking and confidence in decision-making. Agile decision making and the ability to change quickly when needed.

Deep understanding, or willingness to become familiar with information technology and capacity building practices, challenges, trends and better practices within the animal welfare sector and in the wider information technology industry.

Strong instructional design, coaching, facilitation, and training skills with evidence of effective application.

Expertise or willing to become familiar with the specific areas of information technology practice, in particular balancing sometimes competing organizational objectives to produce and share a long-term plan and vision for building information technology capital services.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills - able to communicate with a diverse population in a consistently informative, respectful, and professional manner.

Able to exercise sound judgment and maintain a professional demeanor during all interactions with the public, partner agencies, donors, staff, and volunteers.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Work Environment Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position interacts and collaborates will all levels of the organization, including OHS staff, executive team members, donors, general-public, external vendors, volunteers, and supporters. Contact and communication is carried out through face-to-face, telephone and digital interactions. Excellent customer service skills are essential to success. Communication must be clear, understandable, professional, and respectful in all circumstances.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in an office and medical center/animal shelter environment.

Travel and work between the two campuses may be required.

Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.

Animal contact and related injuries may occur.

Noise exposure varies and sometimes includes uncontrolled barking and other animal vocalizations.

Pace of work is active and demanding, requiring a high degree of multitasking and ability to adapt to changing priorities while managing concurrent projects/tasks to completion.

Contact with angry or emotional people may occur.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Occasional use of hands and arms at or above shoulder level.

Prolonged standing, sitting and/or stooping may occur.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
