Position Description:
Crafts end-to-end solutions using Python, Java, and Structured Query Language (SQL). Develops Angular based User Interfaces (UIs) and deploys Java-based middle tier services to Amazon Web Services (AWS). Improves the performance and scalability of applications and workflows. Prepares reports and correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, or status. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Participates in architecture design teams.
Defines and implements application level architecture.
Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
Advises senior management on technical strategy.
Mentors junior team members.
Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, testing, and implementing Web Services and middleware components for financial data platforms.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, testing, and implementing Web Services and middleware components for financial data platforms.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) developing Representational State Transfer (REST) Web Services using Spring Boot; creating middleware components using Java, Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE), iBatis, JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), and Extensible Markup Language (XML); developing back-end components using Oracle, Product Line (PL)/SQL, and Snowflake; publishing and subscribing trade workflow process events using Kafka; and writing unit test cases (using JUnit and Mockito) and test code coverage (using Java Code Coverage (JACOCO) or SonarQube) for financial investment products.
DE deploying containerized data and consumer facing Web applications in Managed Kubernetes Services (Elastic Kubernetes Services (EKS) or Elastic Container Service (ECS) in AWS using Jenkins Core and IBM Urban Code Deploy; performing code versioning and branching using GitHub; issue tracking using Jira; log tracking using Data Dog and CloudWatch; and collaborating with Architects to improve performance and scalability of REST Web Services using Batch Processing, Kafka, Micro Service Framework, and Kubernetes.
DE debugging and troubleshooting financial application production issues and analyzing production data and logs using DataDog, CloudWatch, SQL Developer, and Thread Dump Analyzer; developing automated integration test cases using Cucumber, API test cases, and Karate; creating JIRA tickets for production issues; participating in Agile SCRUM ceremonies; and streamlining backlog stories using Jira Align.
DE enhancing legacy workflows for Trading Operations teams using Python, Microsoft Excel, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Oracle PL/SQL, and spread sheet compare tool; supporting investment teams in evolving investment processes to meet short and long-term goals using Fixed Income portfolio analysis tools, and Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP); and performing data quality checks using Python, Snowflake, Autosys, and Angular.

Fidelity's working model blends the best of working offsite with maximizing time together in person to meet associate and business needs.
