The Job:

The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for all aspects of security of the Museum and to ensure the safety of visitors, employees, and collections will contributing to creating a welcoming environment. This role will oversee the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, maintenance and replacement of the Museum's security systems and Security Operations Center (SOC).

Responsibilities:

Oversee the SOCand the capability of staff to retrieve, respond to,and interface with the Museum's security systems.

Integrate into Museum's plans, policies, procedural guidance, and processes in order to develop the protocols necessary to coordinate, monitor and support operations.

Participate in exhibition and event planning meetings to determine security personnel and technology requirements.

Ensure the establishment, deployment, and documentation of security systems including equipment and hardware listings, software, and schedules; design drawings, specifications and schematics such as cabling plans; and information pertaining to the contracting of systems implementation.

Develop policies and procedures, administer and upgrade security systems and operations, and maintain a strong working partnership with local and federal law enforcement agencies and emergency response teams.

Serve as main security liaison for all departments and third parties.

Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that include safety, security, and emergency responses, as well as identify who is responsible for areas such as performance testing, systems fault identification, problem diagnosis, repairs, etc.

Regularly review contracted security and security system provideragreements, measure performance, and hold all providers accountable for service levels. Develop and defineservice levels that are realistic, objective, measurable and in accord with capabilities.

Conduct formal, documented reviews of security functions semi-annually; present key findings and recommendations to top management including cost-benefit analysis of security systems and actions to be taken.

Identify safety and security training needs and regularly provide the training or take other action to meet the training needs of the organization.

Establish and maintain records to document compliance,legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing and maintaining the security systems.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum 10 years of senior-levelsecurity management in a cultural institution (museums, zoos, performing arts centers, gardens, aquariums, libraries) higher education institutions, security company,corporate security, DHS (Homeland Security) or emergency management.

Bachelor's degree a plus.

Demonstrated understanding of security systems and protocols and ability to manage third-party vendors.

Proven ability to provide the highest standards for safety and security relating to the public, staff, facilities, and collections.

Demonstrated excellence in communication, both verbal and written. Strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to lead others through strong supervisory and organizational skills.

Outstanding interpersonal skills.

Proven customer service skills with an emphasis on collaboration.

Strong experience and knowledge of access control systems, intrusion detection and alarm systems, CCTV.

Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation (or equivalent) preferred.

Additional certification such as Physical Security Professional (PSP) or equivalent is a plus.

Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA) guidelines and ability to detect and eradicate any health and life safety hazards.

Language :

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.

Mathematical :

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, etc.

Reasoning

:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical :

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feeland talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.

The employee must occasionally life and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment :

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
