Analyst- Computer Systems and Data

The Computer Systems and Data Analyst is responsible for gathering and analyzing the requirements needed to improve current business processes or implement new systems to help Field Operations achieve higher levels of efficiency or effectiveness. The incumbent will develop use cases and evaluate the return on investment from system enhancements or new technology purchases being considered by the department. The Computer Systems and Data Analyst will need to work with developers and quality assurance analysts to ensure the development and deployment of system upgrades meet the needs of the department; this will involve developing test cases and scripts to ensure product reliability and functionality. The Computer Systems and Data Analyst will need to analyze and develop solutions for data integrity issues to ensure proper data collection is achieved.

Responsibilities

Collect, collate, and compile requirements from management and end users using interviews, document analysis, surveys, use cases, business process descriptions, business analysis, task and work-flow analysis. Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to document the technical vision and analyze and document trade-offs between usability and performance needs.

Evaluate the impact, return and costs presented by IT-assigned work process improvement opportunities.

Provide analysis, data modeling and recommendations on a specific course of action for applications and work-flow.

Pro-actively communicate and collaborate with management to analyze information needs and functional requirements.

Prepare and maintain functional specification documents to aid the software selection, design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation process for IT projects, including audit of effects of current and future functions and features.

Be the liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams to resolve application issues and outages.

Create and maintain use cases to aid the testing and evaluation of changes and additions to applications.

Create user-friendly presentations to highlight challenges and opportunities and facilitate decision making.

Formulate and maintain business processes and practices for the supported departments.

Participate in the features and defects reporting and tracking process as needed.

Interact with application developers to communicate requirements and answer any questions on behalf of the department.

Create and maintain test cases and scripts to aid in the testing process.

Analyze and develop solutions for data integrity issues identified by subject matter experts; this includes performing data cleansing through manual and automated processes and developing training to assist end users with proper data collection.

Develop training to assist the business units when system modifications are required to ensure proper data collection is achieved.

Review completed work against the written specification.

All other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in management information systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or related area of study.

1 to 4 years’ experience of development and testing in a distributed computing environment.

Must have the ability to utilize software tools, code/query languages, scripts and functions required for effective system reporting, support, and maintenance.

Must have analytical skills with the ability to apply, develop, present, and execute creative solutions.

Must have decision making skills with the ability to recommend strategic direction for Field Operations and manage continuous improvement projects.

Must have verbal communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to present and discuss technical information in a way that establishes rapport, gains understanding and persuades others in the best interest of PGW.

Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Visio) with the ability to display ideas through presentations, flowcharts, and graphs.

Must have baseline understanding of relational databases such as Oracle, PL/SQL, SQL, Visual Basic, .NET frameworks, and various technical reporting applications as desired.

Must have knowledge of common programming and query languages such as C++, Java, Python, and SQL.

Must have experience in the digitization of business processes and automation through low-code / no-code platforms.

Must have knowledge of skills associated with managing system maintenance and projects – requirement definition, design, testing, defect management, implementation, and support.

An understanding of the functional operations of a gas utility distribution and field service operations and their interaction with transportation, material management, customer service and marketing operations is preferred.

Experience with data analytics tools such as Tableau, Power BI or other related tools is preferred.
