Position description

Division of Prevention Science/Department of Medicine

University of California, San Francisco

Faculty Search-Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor: Prevention Researcher

The Division of Prevention Science (DPS) in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), is recruiting multiple faculty members pursuing research in prevention science broadly defined.

The Division of Prevention Science is committed to advancing knowledge in prevention sciences and public health. We have extensive expertise in social and behavioral research applied to prevention science and the development of effective health prevention interventions.

The Division is globally known for our national and international research in HIV/AIDS, but recently we are gaining expertise on various areas and methodologies: chronic disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, mental health, and substance abuse, digital and geospatial data, social media, and community-based research.

The Division includes 19 full-time faculty, most of whom are PhDs, two emeritus faculty, three academic specialists, seven fellows, eight visiting professors, and 38 nonacademic staff members. Our research projects include investigator-initiated research studies, mentoring grants, and technical service/service grants. Our funding comes from the National Institutes of Health, California HIV/AIDS Research Program, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health Resources & Services Administration, the City and State Departments of Public Health, private foundations, and multiple subcontracts.

The Division is home to three federally funded research centers that provide valuable infrastructure support: The Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, The UCSF Prevention Research Center, and the Research Coordinating Center to Reduce Disparities in Multiple Chronic Diseases. We also house the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and over 100 active sponsored research projects.

We are seeking scholars across levels, from Assistant to Full Professors, with expertise on health equity and strong record of working with diverse racialized and minoritized communities such as African American, Latinx, Native American, and Asian Pacific Islanders and their intersections with gender and sexual minority status.

The ideal candidates will be eligible for appointment at the Assistant Professor, but we will consider candidates qualified for appointment at the Associate and Full Professor levels. They will have a strong track record in innovative research and will show promise in establishing interdisciplinary collaborations within and beyond UCSF.

The primary responsibilities include recruiting extramural funding for research, implementation of research projects, and impactful dissemination of research findings. The candidate is expected to actively participate in Divisional services activities, including mentoring and anti-racism culture. They must be committed to values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or terminal degree in a social or behavioral science discipline, or M.D., Dr.P.H., Pharm.D. or terminal degree with at least two years of postdoctoral training. Research expertise in the following areas: public health, sociology, epidemiology, anthropology, communication, psychology, health services research, medical sociology, implementation science, informatics, and statistics.

Please apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF04409. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
