Staff Software Engineer - eCommerce Engineering

About the Role

The Williams-Sonoma, Inc. eCommerce Engineering organization is seeking an energetic and talented Staff Software Engineer to help deliver high value, high quality features to our industry leading eCommerce sites. We are a multi-location team with team members in the US and international locations. We are looking to add team members who have a true passion to leverage technology, learn, and grow in a fast-paced agile environment. We thrive on nimble decision making, small & empowered teams, customer testing and innovation.

As a Staff Software Engineer you will join a Scrum team building features and automated tests of those features. You will work closely with other engineers and Product Managers to understand user stories and develop the features.

Responsibilities

Work with Architecture to craft technical designs and drive the evolution of our site architecture.

Work in tandem with multiple groups to strategize and prioritize next generation product initiatives, develop processes and solutions, and drive projects to completion.

Develop strong working relationships across levels and functions.

Facilitate problem diagnosis and resolution in relevant areas.

Drive change, including programs that improve developer productivity and reduce time to market.

Assist Product Managers in designing and defining new features.

Write code that is of high quality and consistent with our coding standards.

Write automated tests of new features to ensure they are of very high quality.

Review the work of other engineers in a collegial fashion to ensure the work product is of high quality and consistent with our standards.

Participate in, and potentially lead, Communities-of-Practice in those technologies in which you have an interest.

Participate in continuous education programs to grow your skills both technically and in the Williams-Sonoma business domain.

Serve as a member of a Scrum team and participate in all planning, stand-up and retrospective meetings.

Influence the technical direction of the engineering team and the approach for complex solutions involving multiple teams within the domain.

Criteria

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience

10+ years of large-scale ecommerce systems experience

An understanding of software development best practices

Expert understanding of Java, Cassandra, distributed systems and cloud technologies

Champion of software development best practices

Enthusiasm for constant improvement as a Software Engineer

Ability to review and critique proposed designs and offer thoughtful feedback in a collegial fashion

Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including Executive Leadership

Skilled in writing and presenting -- able to craft needed messages so they are clearly expressed and easily understood

Strong team collaboration and influence skills

Ability to work independently on complex problems of diverse complexity and scope

The expected starting pay range for this position is $155,000 - $185,000 annually. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
