Financial Controller

Job Description

Financial Controller

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial activities within the manufacturing operation. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, cost management, and compliance while serving as a strategic partner to operations leadership. The Controller plays a critical role in driving profitability, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making.

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure accuracy of general ledger, account reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Manage external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

  • Oversee cost accounting functions including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
  • Analyze labor, overhead, and material costs to identify savings opportunities
  • Maintain and improve cost controls across manufacturing operations
  • Support pricing, margin analysis, and profitability initiatives

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
  • Partner with plant and operations leadership on financial planning
  • Track performance against budget and provide actionable variance analysis

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulations
  • Support SOX compliance where applicable

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and develop accounting and finance staff
  • Serve as a financial business partner to operations, engineering, and supply chain teams
  • Provide financial insight to support capital investments and process improvements

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee ERP and financial systems usage and enhancements
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting
  • Support data accuracy for inventory, production, and costing systems

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA (preferred)
  • 510+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience in manufacturing
  • Strong background in cost accounting and inventory management

Technical Skills

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and manufacturing finance principles
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with BI tools a plus
