Job Summary

As a central figure in advancing UCSF's strategic objectives, the Strategic Initiatives & Communications Manager operates within the Supply Chain Management Department. This role is instrumental in the development and implementation of comprehensive organizational strategies, change management initiatives, and communication plans for key projects.

This management role necessitates frequent interaction with campus departmental leaders, operational leaders in Supply Chain Management and other stakeholders, fostering effective relationships, and enhancing the university's supply chain practices in line with strategic goals. This position oversees the Strategic Initiative Portfolio of Supply Chain Management, assuming overall responsibility for Project Management, Communication Strategy, Change Management, and Customer Experience. In addition, this role involves cross-functional coordination with other units within UCSF's Finance & Administration, championing communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization. The Strategic Initiatives & Communications Manager plays a pivotal managerial role, supervising a team of communication and project analysts. The role demands the promotion of a work environment that encourages collaboration, efficiency, and continuous process improvement. It also involves managing consultant engagements and requires exceptional leadership and communication skills. Candidates for this role should possess a solid understanding of organizational development, effectiveness, and strategic planning. They are expected to manage professional-level staff and projects, assuming responsibility for the quality of work produced by the team. They should be adept at establishing objectives and allocating resources to meet schedules and goals within the framework of established organizational policies.

The Strategic Initiatives & Communications Manager plays a crucial role in setting and supporting organizational effectiveness goals. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals can result in additional costs, personnel, and significant delays in overall schedules.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $113,500 - $258,100 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Supply Chain Management (SCM) manages the Supply Chain processes to allow UCSF to source, procure, contract, move, pay for and store good and services. By enabling academic, medical, and research excellence we directly impact UCSF's mission and "advance health worldwide". We work collaboratively with each department on campus, maintaining an action-oriented focus and continually advocate for innovation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

Thorough knowledge of organization and system operations, protocols and procedures

Demonstrates leadership and management skills required to lead subordinates, in the areas of staff performance and development, team building and communications, resolution of issues and conflicts, review and approval of work, and hiring and training employees

Requires high degree of diplomacy, influential and interpersonal skills to work effectively across the organization at all levels

Able to interpret and communicate, both verbally and in writing, complex information in a clear and concise manner

10+ years relevant experience leading project portfolio management including strategic planning, change management and communications

Demonstrates the ability to manage a portfolio of work including strategic planning, change management and communication activities in a large, complex organization

Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen

skills

Knowledge of supply chain processes, customers and communication channels

Knowledge of higher education administrative management including supply chain management

Preferred Qualifications

PROSCI Change Management Certification

PMP Certification
