Job Description
BeVera is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Scientist to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the CDCs newly formed Center for Forecasting and Analysis (CFA). CFA’s goal is to enable timely, effective decision-making to improve outbreak responses. BeVera is looking for a qualified, experienced, data scientist to provide data modeling, forecasting, analysis, and systems integration to respond to outbreaks in real-time, driving effective decision making.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide quantitative analyses, data science, data engineering, epidemiological modeling and other relevant support, for modeling and forecasting public health response data.
Collaborate with staff to develop, implement, and interpret output from advanced analytic, computational, transmission-dynamic and/or predictive modeling tools.
Apply advanced quantitative, computer science, mathematical, and/or statistical skills to collect, organize, analyze and/or interpret large and/or complex data sets.
Collaborate with staff to define and develop statistical and advanced analytic methods and solutions for a variety of high-profile data science and modeling projects.
Contribute to creating new analytic methods and/or modeling approaches or modify current methods and use state-of-the-art technology to achieve the desired results while ensuring the scientific integrity, reproducibility and validity of the outputs.
Interpret and translate scientific data into easily understood materials or responses to public or congressional inquiries.
Provide day-to-day subject matter expert analysis and advice in mathematical modeling for a range of common, emerging, and potentially novel infectious diseases including COVID-19, seasonal/pandemic influenza, monkeypox, polio, and Ebola.
Qualifications
Master’s or PHD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field.
Minimum 5 years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models.
In-depth experience using the statistical computer language R to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
Familiarity using statistical computer languages (SAS, Python) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
Experience querying databases and using computer languages: R, Python, SLQ, etc.
Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests, and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on open-source product development.
Experience working with and creating data architectures.
Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams. 508 compliance knowledge.
Public Health and/or Epidemiology background is preferred.
Additional Information
Position is full-time
Position is primary remote. Occasional travel to CDC’s Atlanta office may be required.
Salary range is $90K – $140K depending on experience.
