Carrier Sales Senior Manager

This role is responsible to assist in the leadership, growth, and development of the carrier sales team. This role will be responsible for cultivating a carrier sales team as well as representing and exemplifying the fundamental principles of excellence, morality, and ongoing development.

Utilizing creative, organizational, and communication abilities, this person will achieve operational and customer service standards as well as organizational goals while optimizing income potential. Additional responsibilities will include negotiating carrier rates, building relationships, onboarding new carriers, carrier compliance, database tracking, and pairing carriers with the company’s common lanes and shipments.

Responsibilities:

Successfully build strong partnerships with internal and external customers or carriers as an escalation point.

Coach, train, and motivate Carrier Sales team members.

Mentor, delegate and elevate reports through personal one on one coaching.

Review Carriers Sales staff baseline metrics and assist Team Leads in setting up a corrective action plan.

Review and coach reports on carrier pricing and availability prior to submission of quotes being given back to customers.

Help direct reports resolve any challenges that may arise concerning the successful execution of the load from tendering, delivering, receivables, and payment of carriers.

Assist team to improve, develop and grow carrier commitments.

Deliver on specific KPIs- Volume, Margin, Tracking Automation, Pre-booking, and POD collection.

Communicate solutions to carrier reps and account managers.

Resolve escalated issues.

Build strong relationships with all internal and external parties through transparency and effective teamwork.

Direct the implementation of continuous improvement efforts.

Work with leadership to ensure team is following best practices.

Present clear goals and expectations to team.

Provide key insight on market trends and pricing to the executive team.

Support the execution of customer-focused RFQs.

Collaborate with the sales management team to maximize department efforts in direct coordination with customer needs.

Maintain a complete understanding of markets including seasonal freight.

Maintain a complete understanding of targeted capacity including POC’s, common lanes, and common trailer types.

Oversee carrier onboarding to ensure company standards are being met.

Develop new and grow existing carrier relationships.

Build relationships with carriers based on the company’s business needs to secure additional capacity to meet the demands of the sales team.

Able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Highly collaborative with the ability to work effectively with all departments.

Organized with high attention to detail.

Experience:

Four-year degree, preferably in transportation and logistics, and/or relevant experience in transportation or related field. (Book of Business is a plus)

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) products.

Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress.

Ability to plan and organize, attention to detail, problem-solving skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Proficient in transportation industry software.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
