Manager, Communications and Marketing

Battery Council International is looking for a data-driven digital media expert to help us promote our trade association, annual conference, and advocacy work on behalf of BCI's member firms.

For instance, did you know lead batteries are the most-recycled consumer product in America, with a 99% recapture rate -– compared with only 50% for aluminum cans and 30% for plastic bottles? It's true! And we need your help to get facts like this out there in the wider world.

Our Manager of Communications & Marketing will create content and measure performance of that content across multiple venues, but primarily through social media and e-mail marketing channels. This person will have a leadership role, overseeing editorial and marketing calendars, and working directly with BCI's board and senior staff. For the right candidate, there will be room for growth into even greater responsibility within the organization.

The position is remote for the majority of the time, with only a few days each month that require in-person collaboration or offsite travel based on the BCI events calendar.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day execution and long-term planning of all BCI social media channels , including LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook. Test additional channels where appropriate, measure performance, and ensure paid ad spend on social media platforms is worthwhile.

Manage e-mail marketing workflow for BCI and the Women in the Global Battery Industry (WGBI), a BCI sponsored affinity group , including producing copy, measuring performance, and managing scheduling for the association's event and product marketing efforts.

Manage workflow for the BCI and WGBI monthly e-mail newsletters , including gathering editorial assets, moving them into our Constant Contact template, and experimenting with design and A/B testing to maximize performance.

Draft short-form content for batterycouncil.org, including blog posts on key issues and thought leadership for our industry.

Oversee SEO and SEM marketing efforts, including creating a structure to measure performance of paid spend and optimize organic search opportunities for evergreen content and explainers.

Maintain internal calendar on critical events, including National Battery Day, America Recycles Day, and other calendar-driven items that inform our communications strategy, messaging, and social media marketing opportunities.

Help maintain and grow the association’s brand and public presence, including media outreach and media monitoring.

Employ a data-driven approach , in both measuring campaign deliverables to ensure objectives are met as well as managing budget with an eye on maximizing value for every dollar spent through data analytics.

Support BCI staff to in messaging and marketing collateral , including refining processes and editing staff work in support of communications initiatives.

Provide general support for BCI's annual in-person conference, including collaborating on printed materials, supporting info on the website, and event programming on-site.

Maintain and a positive "can do" attitude , as we are a small trade association that requires flexibility and responsiveness. With a tight team, it's important to focus on execution and pitch in as needed when things pop up.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.

At least four years of experience in communications and/or marketing, experience within a complex organizational structure or association preferred.

Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Knowledge of media relations, social media, content, SEO/SEM and email marketing platforms.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Knowledge of the association industry or sustainability advocacy, understanding of member-based organizations.

Experience working on issues impacting manufacturing or industrial operations preferred.

This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, laptops, and smartphones. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

Prolonged periods of time using a computer.

Ability to maintain concentration and work performance with frequent disruptions.

Ability to lift up to 30 pounds of office supplies or materials.

Ability to travel at various times throughout the year.

While performing this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
