As Senior Design Engineer you will be responsible to work closely with RWE Clean Energy's development teams to conceive and design energy storage systems to support RWECE's project deployment goals. You will be working very closely with talented SME teams such as development, procurement, commercial analysis and other engineering teams to develop standalone and hybrid storage design. You will also be the technical liaison with industry-leading BESS vendors. You will report to the Director of Project Design and help represent RWE in front of external stakeholders (suppliers, customers, TSO/DSO, and regulatory bodies).

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the development, review and technical oversight of efficient and cost-effective BESS design for energy storage projects.

Establish and maintain the engineering design criteria, applicable standards and specifications for BESS projects

Serve as BESS SME and technical lead for projects from early-development stage to financial approval stage, coordinate with other engineering disciplines

Responsible for technology selection and management of design development before hand-off to the execution team

Manage engagement with industry-leading BESS and inverter OEMs, deliver project specific technical requirements

Support procurement of BESS equipment by maintaining continuous interface with Vendor's technical personnel and performing technical bid evaluation to ensure compliance to specifications.

Review/approve the work of consultants used on BESS projects to ensure consistent, cost effective designs and timely delivery.

Mentor and develop junior engineers

Submit and lead creative ideas to improve RWE value proposition in energy storage

Ensure the highest level of environmental health and safety in all engineering and design aspects of energy storage projects.

Support Development and Construction to assure timely and cost-effective resolution to regulatory, permitting and technical issues associated with the execution and delivery of BESS projects.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in electrical engineering is preferred.

Experience in Renewables, PV, Battery storage, EPC and hybrid system (solar plus storage) is preferred

Excellent interpersonal skills, energetic and a self-starter

A minimum of 7 years of experience in energy/renewable technology engineering - minimum 3+ years of experience with energy storage technology, Li-Ion batteries, systems engineering and integration

Strong knowledge of energy storage projects and industry trends with primary focus on batteries, storage and related solutions.

Strong technical acumen with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, both internal and external.

Deep passion for decarbonization of the global electricity grid

The following is a big plus but not a requirement: Experience developing drawings in Autocad, Bluebeam, Visio, or similar software is a plus

Experience with battery performance modelling & applications and working (and/or developing) with BESS sizing software is a plus.

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $136,000 - $204,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
