Pediatric Hospitalist Clinical Faculty with training in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team providing comprehensive medical care to critically ill children with a wide range of medical, surgical, oncologic, and hematologic diagnoses and after bone marrow transplantation.

Duties and Responsibilities

The hospitalist shall provide physician medical management to patients in the Charlotte Bloomberg Children's Hospital PICU with an emphasis on the management of patients with hematological and oncologic diseases.

The hospitalist will obtain patients histories, examine patients, order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests, determine diagnoses and implement appropriate treatment, monitor patients' condition and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary. Administrative responsibilities including but not limited to medical record keeping and billing as required by the Johns Hopkins Hospital in accordance with its medical bylaws and policies and procedures of the Johns Hopkins Clinical Practice Association.

The hospitalist will work with the PICU team and staff of other services, composed of other physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and therapists to coordinate and optimize care and maximize efficiency. The hospitalist demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills that establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families and other members of health care teams.

The hospitalist will follow performance standards and hospital policies for hospital providers.

The hospitalist will be required to attend PICU administrative and educational meetings and conferences.

The hospitalist will be required to participate in the teaching program of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicineconduct research, and participate in quality improvement . The hospitalist will maintain satisfactory, regular attendance by reporting to work as scheduled and keeping unscheduled absences to a minimum.

Qualifications The hospitalist candidate should be a board certified pediatrician and pediatric hematologist and oncologist, licensed to practice medicine and prescribe all pharmaceuticals in the State of Maryland. Furthermore the candidate must show commitment to pediatric bone marrow transplantation. A strong research background in pediatric basic as well as clinical science is desired as evidenced by prior research activity, publications in the relevant area, formal training in this area, and the acquisition of extramural funding. The position will include teaching of advanced practice practitioners, fellows, residents, and medical and graduate students in the clinical and laboratory setting.
