Senior Director of Technology Services

Charlotte, NC, United States

Job Description Job Description Overview

Gordon-Conwell is a multi-denominational, evangelical Protestant

graduate school, unique with its broad array of over 2100 students and 200 faculty and staff from

98 denominations and 64 countries. Our four campuses include a residential model of education

at South Hamilton, MA (our main campus); an urban context offering classes in multiple

languages in downtown Boston, MA; and adult educational models in both our Charlotte, NC

campus and our offerings in Jacksonville, FL.

Our mission is to prepare men and women for ministry at home and abroad. Rooted in the gospel

and God’s Word, the seminary seeks to develop Christian leaders who are thoughtful, globally

aware, spiritually mature, and ready for a broad array of ministries. While being historically

orthodox and evangelical, we seek to address the issues of our times with both relevance to the

culture and faithfulness to Christ and God’s truthful Word.

Position Summary

We are seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as Senior Director of

Technology Services. This crucial role oversees a team of dedicated professionals, shapes the

strategic direction of our technology infrastructure, and ensures robust and innovative support

for faculty, staff, and students across all campuses. You will be responsible for fostering a culture

of excellence, driving operational efficiency, and leveraging technology to advance the

seminary's mission of preparing transformative Christian leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Vision

• Lead and inspire a team comprising of an assistant director, staff managers, technical

staff, and student workers. Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and service-oriented

culture within Technology Services.

• Develop and implement long-term technology strategies aligned with the seminary's

mission, goals, and evolving needs. Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to

identify priorities and ensure technology investments contribute to institutional success.

• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends, identifying and evaluating

opportunities to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative processes. Champion

innovation and guide the adoption of solutions that advance the Seminary's mission.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, and students, serving as a

trusted advisor and advocate for their technology needs.

Operational Excellence

• Oversee the efficient and effective operation of all IT and AV systems and services

across all campuses, including the Service Desk. Ensure consistent, reliable, and secure

technology access for all users.

• Manage vendor relationships. Fostering collaboration and resolving issues effectively.

• Negotiate contracts with vendors. Ensuring competitive pricing and favorable terms for

the seminary.

• Manage Technology Services budgets effectively, identifying opportunities for cost

optimization and resource allocation based on strategic priorities.

• Develop and implement policies and procedures that govern technology use, ensuring

compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.

• Partner with the CIO/VP of Strategy to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and

measure the impact of technology investments.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work collaboratively with campus leadership, faculty, staff, and students to understand

their needs and develop technology solutions that meet their goals.

• Maintain open and transparent communication with stakeholders, providing regular

updates on technology initiatives and addressing concerns promptly.

• Build strong relationships with vendors and external partners, ensuring optimal

performance and cost-effectiveness of technology solutions.

Key Competencies

• Commitment to Gordon-Conwell's mission and values, and a willingness to accept and

uphold the seminary's Christian faith and community statement.

• 10+ years of experience in IT management, preferably in a higher education setting.

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., Technology, Computer Science) or equivalent

experience. Master’s degree in business or technology is preferred.

• Proven leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to inspire,

motivate, and coach others.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate complex

technical concepts into clear and concise language.

• Experience with ITIL and ITSM principles a plus.

• Familiarity with cloud-based technologies and experience managing Service Desk

operations preferred.
