The Assistant Director of Email Marketing isresponsible for creating (individually and in partnership with Amherstcolleagues), building, and sending broad-based and small-scale emailcommunications to Amherst College constituents, a highly diverse groupof primarily alumni, parents, and friends. This position manages theAdvancement division\'s email marketing platform (Slate Deliver) and isa strong project manager, responsible for managing the divisions emailcalendar, overseeing e-mail project implementation, helping to developand execute broad-based fundraising, cultivation, and engagementstrategies, and working with multiple external vendors and internalconstituents to bring projects to completion. The Assistant Director ofEmail Marketing is a strong proofreader and copy editor, able to spotand correct spelling and grammatical errors, inconsistencies informatting or style guide adherence, and factual inaccuracies. As theywork with diverse volunteers and stakeholders beyond the Advancementdivision, they will exercise editorial judgment to flag language thatcould be outdated, misinterpreted, or counter to Amherst\'s mission andcommunications strategy and diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. TheAssistant Director will understand the database processes for capturinggift, demographic, and other data, and manage database query requestsfor mailing lists to ensure accuracy of the list for all projects. Theywill use reporting and ROI analysis generated by AdvancementCommunications colleagues and Advancement data specialists to implementtesting of content and design, identifying opportunities for newinitiatives and programming and new digital resources to ensure that allemail communications are both leading-edge and connected to theCollege\'s mission and traditions. A firm understanding of alumnisentiment and preferences (e.g. reasons to give, reasons not to give,controversial terms/issues) available through quantitative data is alsoimportant. The person in this role is expected to work as part of acollaborative and inclusive team including taking appropriate actions tosupport a diverse workforce and participating in the College\'s effortsto create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. Inaddition, all advancement staff members are required to support andstaff key events such as Reunion, Homecoming, and Family Weekend. Theseevents may require occasional evening and weekend hours. Qualifications:Bachelor\'s Degree. A minimum of two years of progressive workexperience in email marketing and communications; significant experiencein higher education philanthropy or closely related service organizationpreferred. Proficiency in HTML and CSS coding. Exceptional verbal andwritten communication, interpersonal, customer service, organizational,and time management skills. Familiarity with and commitment tounderstanding the needs and preferences of a highly diverse group ofconstituents to foster engagement and relevancy across demographicgroups. Experience with copyediting and proofreading. Knowledge of majoremail platforms or enterprise-level solutions like Slate is preferred.Database experience and familiarity with CRM and email clients.Familiarity with direct marketing best practices and current web trendsand tools. Familiarity with graphic and web design and Adobe CreativeSuite is preferred Occasional evening an weekend hours required
