As a Software Development Engineer, you’ll be accountable to help define your team's system architecture. You’ll own and implement specific components, and help shape the overall your team's technical strategy. You’ll collaborate closely with UX designers, product owners, and other engineering team members to help define the product. This role offers wide scope, autonomy, and ownership. You will own the design of major deliverables end-to-end and work closely with experienced engineers to execute them. You should be willing to take on challenging initiatives and be capable of working both independently and with others as a team. You will design, build, test, and own highly scalable, available, and high performing low latency systems. You will own full stack and entire life-cycle of our products, from the roadmap to the architecture to implementation and continuous iterative development. You will be leveraging cutting edge AWS technologies such as DynamoDB, S3, Amazon Kinesis, SQS, and SNS to build your solutions.
A successful candidate will have an established background in engineering large scale software systems, a strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.
Key job responsibilities
1) Work directly with your stakeholders and peers to brainstorm, design, prototype, build, test, and iterate on new ideas to build new services and products
2) Work with the latest technologies and tools and shape the vision of your tech stack - find out what it takes to engineer systems for “Amazon Scale”
3) Write clean, maintainable code and perform peer code-reviews
4) Deep-dive into client or server systems to optimize for performance, maintainability, scalability, extensibility as needed
5) Learn from others and help grow those in your team
Propose innovative tools, frameworks, automation and processes that are used by the entire team for development
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
