Director of Service & Community Engagement

Job Description Job Description The Director of Service & Community Engagement is responsible for the design, development, oversight, and implementation of the University’s volunteer and academic service learning programs. In addition, they identify and facilitate the community service opportunities for the service learning courses/programs. Working collaboratively with community partners, Deans, faculty, and students, the Director is responsible for developing mutually beneficial campus and community partnerships to provide meaningful volunteer and service learning opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. In addition, the director is an active participant in local and national networks, helping to position the college as a leader in civic engagement and social justice.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

Create and sustain new community-campus partnerships that are mutually beneficial and that enhance student learning through community engagement; expand partnerships with community-based organizations.

Collaborate with faculty, and academic administration in the development, implementation, and assessment of service learning embedded into the curriculum.

Oversee and administer the University’s Bonner Leaders program, the Presidential Scholars program, and Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority.

Oversees and supervise the service team, including performance and assessment, short and long-term strategic planning and objectives, budget administration, and personnel management.

Provides leadership in developing partnerships with internal and external groups to advance our SSND-based service mission, including but not limited to, all current grants.

Serves as central campus resource for service opportunities, including maintaining databases and website, tracking service, and developing and coordinating sites.

Establishes and maintains a system for the regular reporting of service experiences (volunteer, practicum, placements, etc.) in terms of inputs, outputs, and outcomes, in consultation with the various academic deans and other stakeholders. Communicate such information to internal and external sources as appropriate, such as the President’s Honor Roll, to assist in the marketing of the University’s mission and brand identity.

Assists Associate Dean, SASB with the service requirements for NDMU 100 (first-year seminar) and leads the first-year service initiative for new students.

Seeks out and supports various city, state, federal, non-profit, and association related grants for service related activities. Works to maintain and manage grants received by the office. Serve as the director for the AmeriCorps Vista grant program for the duration of the grants

Serve on University committees, taskforces, workgroups, etc. as designated.

Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.

Qualifications

Knowledge : Bachelor degree in a related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience : A minimum of three years of related professional experience, including successfully managing a service program and recruiting volunteers. Experience in a higher education setting and working with college-age adults is preferred.

Skills/Aptitude : Energetic, self-starter, visionary, creative individual who is able to establish relationships and programs designed to support the co-curricular development of students. Successful candidates must possess a strong service orientation and demonstrated success in working with diverse populations, as well as have an understanding and commitment to Catholic social teachings and a liberal arts education. Successful candidates must also have demonstrated success in creating and maintaining collaborative community partnerships, excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, problem solving abilities, staff supervision, team building, budget management and report writing. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) required. Experience with Mobile Serve or other service tracking software preferred.

Working Conditions : Normal office environment (walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, etc.). Some occasional light physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Other Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Responsible Employee (RE). A RE is required to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator.
