We are looking for a Systems and Applications Specialist I to work with our scientists and researchers within our Institute of Molecular Medicine which utilize both Macs and PCs. This employee provides support, and lends technical expertise, to departments and users for software, applications, security, and systems issues. You must be able to work with a variety of hardware and software, and be an adept troubleshooter as well as a customer service oriented professional. This role acts very much like a traditional desktop support person, but works in a medical and academic environment with hundreds of users. Experience supporting both Macs and PCs is required.

This is an on-site position. This role will require someone with hands on Apple (iMac, Macbook, iOS) experience in a support setting. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to join Apple devices to a Microsoft Active Directory domain as well as connecting networked shared printers and network drives to these devices. The ideal candidate will understand the Mac and the Microsoft environments and how they interact across networks and with peripherals.

This person will be a full time employee eligible for all UTHealth Benefits including great healthcare coverage and a pension administered by the State of Texas. You will need to be able to report daily to our Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building location on Pressler Street in the heart of the Texas Medical Center on Pressler Street. This is not a remote role, and it is classified as exempt.

Position Summary:

Provides support, and lends technical expertise, to departments and users for software, applications, security, and systems issues.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Provides technical support for desktop computers and other peripheral equipment, including installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing equipment in a networked environment. Determines feasibility of repair or replacement of equipment, and acts on issues as necessary.

Troubleshoots desktop services and systems and makes recommendations for improvements to increase productivity and address workflow issues.

Meets with users to determine software, application, or systems needs. Researches solutions and provides users with recommendations for appropriate solutions to address their needs.

Provides training to users on various systems, applications and software as needed.

Documents each case, annotating all updates to ensure proper documentation of the resolution.

Maintains database of desktop services issues and resolutions for future reference.

Responsible for maintaining equipment and software inventory. Maintains files and documentation for various software installations.

Approves all IT lease and purchase requests.

Participates in the execution of rollouts/deployments, migrations and upgrades.

Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

A+, MCSE and/or MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate) preferred.

Good communication skills both verbal and written.

Associate’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education.

Two (2) years of related experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
