JOB SUMMARY:
The Billing Specialist is responsible for billing claims to appropriate insurance companies (as well as secondary/tertiary on an as need basis) or governmental institutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Determine primary and secondary insurance company responsibilityReview client charts to ensure accurate documentation and insurance provider responsibilityPush charts from funding system into billing systemPrepare and submit claims for portal (Availity) processing to insurance companiesVerify scan proof of deliveries for each claim in AMDFollow up on previously billed claims as required by departmental needInvestigate and resolve billing errors and issues; rebill claims when necessaryContact insurances for billing assistance and claim resolutionWork with collectors, cash posters, and funding team when issues ariseAlert the Manager of Funded Billing & Cash Posting of potential billing/collection issuesUpdate account notes to document billing actions and expected outcomesResearch and stay abreast of state, federal, and third-party funding regulations for assigned accounts ensuring billing and payment practices comply with third party payer requirementsProperly document processes so that others can reperform themPerform various other tasks as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma2 or more years medical billing experienceKnowledge of how payments are processed by insurance companies and an understanding of contractual adjustments and refunds preferredKnowledge of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation preferred
COMMUNICATION SKILLSStrong interpersonal and customer service skillsVerbal communication skillsTeaming skills
COMPUTER OR TECHNICAL SKILLS:Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel and OutlookAble to research medical billing information via the internetAble to work in and learn multiple systems as well as easily transition from one system to the next throughout the dayBasic data entry and word processing skills
