PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)

PostgreSQL DBA Long Term Contract Client is seeking a skilled and experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to support and maintain our enterprise database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have 5–6 years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in production environments, with a strong focus on performance tuning, high availability, and data integrity. Familiarity with MongoDB is a plus. This role will play a critical part in managing our core data systems, supporting development and infrastructure teams, and ensuring database environments are optimized for performance, scalability, and compliance within a highly regulated financial institution.

Key Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and non-production environments

Design and manage database replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategies

Perform tuning and optimization of queries, indexes, and performance parameters

Implement monitoring and alerting to ensure database health and availability

Partner with application and infrastructure teams to support development and deployment workflows

Troubleshoot complex issues related to availability, performance, and data consistency

Create and maintain documentation for standard procedures, processes, and configurations

Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and data governance standards

Participate in on-call support rotations and respond to critical incidents

Qualifications: 5–6 years of experience as a Postgres DBA in a production environment

Strong knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL internals, configuration, and administration

Experience with logical and physical replication, high availability, and failover strategies

Skilled in database performance tuning and query optimization

Familiarity with Linux environments and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python)

MongoDB experience is a plus

Experience in a financial services or regulated environment preferred

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

Preferred Skills: Knowledge of pgAdmin, Patroni, pgBouncer, pgBackRest, or similar Postgres tooling

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL)

Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD tools, and version control systems

Understanding of data security and auditing best practices
