PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)

PostgreSQL DBA Long Term ContractClient is seeking a skilled and experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to support and maintain our enterprise database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have 5–6 years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in production environments, with a strong focus on performance tuning, high availability, and data integrity. Familiarity with MongoDB is a plus. This role will play a critical part in managing our core data systems, supporting development and infrastructure teams, and ensuring database environments are optimized for performance, scalability, and compliance within a highly regulated financial institution.Key Responsibilities:Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and non-production environmentsDesign and manage database replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategiesPerform tuning and optimization of queries, indexes, and performance parametersImplement monitoring and alerting to ensure database health and availabilityPartner with application and infrastructure teams to support development and deployment workflowsTroubleshoot complex issues related to availability, performance, and data consistencyCreate and maintain documentation for standard procedures, processes, and configurationsEnsure adherence to security, compliance, and data governance standardsParticipate in on-call support rotations and respond to critical incidentsQualifications:5–6 years of experience as a Postgres DBA in a production environmentStrong knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL internals, configuration, and administrationExperience with logical and physical replication, high availability, and failover strategiesSkilled in database performance tuning and query optimizationFamiliarity with Linux environments and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python)MongoDB experience is a plusExperience in a financial services or regulated environment preferredStrong verbal and written communication skillsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fieldPreferred Skills:Knowledge of pgAdmin, Patroni, pgBouncer, pgBackRest, or similar Postgres toolingExperience with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL)Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD tools, and version control systemsUnderstanding of data security and auditing best practices
