Job Overview: The Bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, therapy, intervention, and extended year service; collaborating with teachers, students and families; and carrying out the school's vision of inclusion.
Reports To: The Bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist, reports directly to the Director of Student Services.
Responsibilities and DutiesPrimaryProvide speech and language therapy that addresses goals for students as indicated per their Individual Education PlansProvide and complete comprehensive diagnostic assessments of speech, voice, and language impairments in a timely manner; and determines the presence/absence of a specific communication disorder which adversely impacts academic progressProvide intervention to students through Response to InterventionProvide speech as a related service, as indicated, on Section 504 Accommodation PlansParticipate in Multidisciplinary team meetings and fulfill responsibilities of presenting progress summaries on present levels of performance, and proposed IEP goalsAssist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairmentsAssist in the proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.Keep thorough and timely records for each student receiving therapy or other school provided speech-language servicesCollaborate with general and special education teachers to support students achieving IEP goalsHold high expectations for each studentCreate and foster a positive learning environmentEstablish and maintain strong communication lines with all parentsCollaborate with parents; provide resources and information for familiesAttend pre-planned evening events throughout the year such as APTT, Expo, Flamboyan family visits, etc.Encouraged to attend at least one family event a year such as orientation, prospective parent info sessions, family potlucks, etc.Provide ESY services in Mundo Verde's summer program for an additional stipendOtherParticipate in school events outside of regular school hours (i.e. Learning Expos, open houses, etc.)Provide speech and language services in Mundo Verde's summer program (runs through 3rd week in July) for an additional stipendSupervise students pursuing their speech and language license if the opportunity / need arisesOther duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and ValuesQualificationsCandidates must have a bachelor's degree, preferably in speech pathology or communication sciences.A master's degree in these areas is preferred.A Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology is required.At least two years of experience in an elementary school setting required, 3 or more years as a Speech and Language Pathologist preferred.Advanced or native proficiency in Spanish required. Experience or strength in phonemic awareness and reading remediation preferred.Urban teaching experience preferred
