SITE OF SERVICE :

Brooke Army Medical Center Ft Sam Houston, TX

·

HCWs shall receive notification two weeks prior to the reassignment to another location not to exceed a 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF.

·

Full Time Position

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

·

Degree:

Certificate

·

Education:

Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the Commission on Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

·

Experience:

One year of practical or vocational nurse experience after graduation.

·

Certificate:

Current certification as Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) is highly desirable .

o

If not a CHT, the LVN shall attend the CHT course within 2 months of the date of hire.

o

To obtain a CHT, the LVN shall:

§

Complete a 40-hour introductory hyperbaric medicine course approved as a CHT qualifying course

§

40 hours of a supervised clinical internship

§

480 hours of hyperbaric medicine experience

§

Transcutaneous oxygen measurement (TCOMS) module with performance of three (3) TCOMS procedures

§

Pass the CHT exam within 6 months of completing the introductory hyperbaric medicine course.

Additional Certifications

: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) hands on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

·

Licensure:

Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse.

·

U.S. Citizenship :

Shall be a U.S. citizen

·

English Language Requirement:

Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.

·

Physical Capability:

Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

CORE DUTIES:

·

Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.

·

Complete assigned patient care based on the patients’ conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report, and record relevant patient information.

·

Observe, identify, and respond to the patient’s needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education.

·

Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.

·

Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.

·

Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing, and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient’s condition before, during, and following the procedure.

·

Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice.

·

Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare delivery, education of patients and their families and employee satisfaction.

·

Assist with front desk activities as needed. These include, but are not limited to: checking in patients, scheduling patients, and managing referrals.

HOURS:

·

The performance hours of the MTF are as follows: 0630 – 1730, Monday through Friday

·

Will not be required to work on federally recognized holidays, unless on-call or overtime hours fall on a holiday

ON CALL:

·

Will be included in the on-call schedule, on a rotational basis to provide nursing duties, inside chamber attendant, or Hyperbaric Chamber operator positions.

·

The hours of on-call will be after 1530 and before 0700, during days that the clinic is open, and 24 hours per day on weekends and holidays.

·

The call schedule will be equitably divided among the available LVN’s employed.

·

The LVN can expect 15-17 weeks of on-call per year.

·

The on-call personnel may be scheduled for any shift to include rotating shifts and weekends.

·

The on-call LVN shall respond by phone within 15 minutes of being paged/called. The LVN must then be able to report to the duty section within 60 minutes of initial contact or at the defined time as related by the Medical Officer initiating the call.

·

The LVN is expected to provide on call support until the Medical Officer assigned has released the on-call staff. Normal Hyperbaric clinic hours are 0630-1730, not to exceed 40 hours per week, excluding on-call and call-back hours.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential.

High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
