Job Summary
The Director of Administration and Finance for the Department of Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (DOM-ZSFG) is the lead administrator responsible for strategizing, developing, planning, and implementing viable administrative structures and funding streams to support department activities at the DOM-ZSFG. The incumbent makes decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives for a large operating unit with a direct impact on a major segment of the organization. The Director reviews and approves recommendations for operational planning and control. Erroneous decisions will have serious impact on the overall success of the department.
The Director of Administration and Finance oversees a management team that problem-solves complex issues that often cross functional areas, while providing the guidance and expertise needed to effect changes in a way that optimizes resource utilization and minimizes risk. The Director oversees the division administrators at Medicine at ZSFG and manages the department's central administration group. The Director of Administration and Finance collaborates with the Chief of Medicine to manage administrative issues with a strong emphasis on central departmental administrative systems and internal controls. Additionally, the Director of Administration and Finance works in close partnership with the Associate Director of Administration and Finance to ensure that all financial and administrative operations are aligned and effectively support the organization's strategic goals and operational needs. Ultimate accountability for administrative effectiveness resides with the Director of Administration and Finance. The Director of Administration and Finance reports to the Vice Chair of Medicine/Chief of Medicine at ZSFG and the Associate Chair for Administration at the UCSF Department of Medicine and works collaboratively with the Dean's Office and city managers at ZSFG.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $238,500 - $335,800 (Annual Rate). Estimated salary for this role is $275,000.

Department Description
The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) and the second largest department in the School of Medicine (second only to Medicine-Parnassus).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at 10 or more years of progressively responsible academic and financial management experience, or equivalent experience, encompassing financial management, strategic planning and organizational development, clinical practice management, and human resource management.
10 or more years of experience hiring and managing high performing management employees.
Advanced skills in strategy development, systems planning and change management.
Excellent leadership abilities to oversee multiple functions or departments through subordinate managers
Advanced knowledge of administrative management theory and ability to translate into practice
Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals which measure effectiveness of contributions to efficient operations of department.
Advanced project management skills, including the capability to manage capital projects.
Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques.
Skills in establishing and implementing customer service standards.
Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll.
Strong knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals which measure effectiveness of contributions to efficient operations of department.
Excellent analytical skills, including a demonstrated understanding of the concepts of internal controls and the methods of evaluating internal control systems. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting policies and procedures.
Excellent judgment and superb interpersonal skills (both verbal and written).
Demonstrated knowledge of strategic financial management and the alignment of financial and operational goals.
Independent and critical thinking paired with strong skills in team work and use of judgment in determining priorities and what decisions need to be moved to a higher level.
Demonstrated, exceptional planning, problem solving and decision making skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively persuade and negotiate results in complex situations.

Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with campus and university on-line systems, federal and staff funding agency requirements, state and federal human resource regulations, space and equipment inventory rules and regulations, campus internal audit rules and regulations, the campus business and finance bulletin, academic personnel manual, school and department clinical compensation plan, clinical practice rules and regulations, campus expenditure rules and regulations.
Familiarity with policies and programmatic guidelines for ACGME training programs an associated funding, institutional guidelines on salary setting for trainees, stipend payments and the appointment process for all trainees (ACGME fellows, non-ACGME fellows and postdocs).
Experience with newsletter design and publishing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud Suite including InDesign)
Graduate degree in business, healthcare or related field.
