POSITION: Driver/Custodian-Per Diem
Make a difference in the lives of New York City's older adults, their families and the community. For over 50 years PSS has performed vital and important work -- through its ten senior centers, two apartment buildings, caregiver services and affiliated programs, the agency touches the lives of over 1,000 people a day. As the Driver/Custodian of one of the senior centers, you will be responsible for providing safe individual and/or group transportation for center members and be responsible for the general cleanliness of the facility. The Driver/Custodian role is vital in ensuring that transportation is provided to allow our members to remain mobile and engaged in their communities and, ensuring that the center is a physically welcoming and a safe place for all members and visitors.
This is a per diem non-exempt position that reports directly to the Lead Cook.
Responsibilities:
Pickup meals and items to and from PSS various centers.
Responsible for the safe transportation of PSS property.
Keep and maintain and clean/ sanitary vehicle.
Bring meals and necessary items inside PSS various centers.
Assist in the packaging of meals.
Assist in providing janitorial services at our catering facility, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, dishes and stocking of items.
Providing and collecting necessary paperwork across PSS various centers.
Complete and provide mileage log and timesheets to supervisor.
Assist with programming as needed.
Comply with PSS Personnel Policy & DFTA Regulations.
Attend Supervision and Team Meetings when applicable.
Communicate with supervisor and other staff in a timely fashion and meet all required deadlines.
Maintain the cleanliness of the center at all times including bathrooms, offices and all common areas.
Serve lunch to the members (if needed)
Sweep, mop, strip and wax the floors.
Move and replace furniture as needed.
Clean large and small appliances and equipment.
Remove dust from ventilation ducts and change light bulbs.
Clean and wash fans.
Remove garbage daily and wash all garbage cans/containers including individual waste baskets.
Clear entryway of snow or debris for safe access to center.
Restock and keep custodial supplies and storage area in order.
Notify Director of supplies needed.
Perform minor repairs.
Additional duties as directed by Supervisor
Qualifications and Experience: High School Diploma
Experience working with Older Adults preferred
Excellent Interpersonal Skills
A valid NYS Driver's License
Three years driving experience
Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) desirable
Professionalism and other qualities: Ability to work well independently and on a team
Maturity and good judgment in relating to peers, partners, and families
Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
Availability, dependability, and willingness to be flexible
Demonstrated ability to solve problems and think strategically
