A caregiver provides essential assistance and support to individuals who are elderly, disabled, or have chronic illnesses. The Caregiver's primary responsibility is to ensure the client's well-being, safety, and comfort while promoting independence and enhancing their quality of life.
Essential Functions:
Personal Care Assist clients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Provide mobility assistance, including helping clients move around the house or transferring from bed to wheelchair.
Support clients with eating and drinking, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
Household Tasks: Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a tidy environment.
Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding as necessary.
Run errands such as grocery shopping and picking up medications.
Medication Services Assist with exercises and physical therapy routines as directed by healthcare professionals.
Medication reminders.
Emotional Support: Provide companionship and engage in meaningful activities and enhance the client's emotional well-being.
Offer support and a listening ear, promoting a positive and uplifting environment.
Respect the client's privacy, dignity, and cultural background.
Safety and Supervision: Ensure the client's living environment is safe and free from hazards.
Supervise the client to prevent accidents and injuries.
Report and changes in the client's condition or behavior to the supervising nurse or healthcare provider.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements:
High school graduate or G.E.D certificate
Successful completion of a state-approved Certified Nurse Aide or Home Health Aide course
At least six months experience as a Caregiver (in homes or facilities).
Be listed in good standing on the States Caregiver Registry
Skills and Abilities:
Strong impersonal and communication skills.
Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature.
Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and supporting clients.
Basic knowledge of healthcare and hygiene practices.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions:
Work primarily in client's homes or care facilities.
May involve exposure to various health conditions and environments.
Requires physical activity, including standing, walking and lifting.
