Director for Digital Communications & Organizing

Philadelphia, PA, United States

About the Race

In Pennsylvania, there are over 600,000 students enrolled in state colleges and universities-that's the most of any battleground. These young voters have the numbers and the power to determine the outcomes of elections up and down the ballot in 2024.

But the youth vote is at an inflection point. Young voters and activists are organizing on campuses across the commonwealth on issues they care about, calling power to account, and questioning national narratives that leave them feeling isolated and marginalized.

At Project 26, we have proven that with the right support, young people are ready to do more than deliver key votes-they are ready to take the lead in building their own stories.

We're building a scrappy and innovative operation to protect and expand democracy by elevating youth leadership on campuses across the state in order to empower thousands of college students to take control of their futures, get organized, and vote in the 2024 elections.

What Will You Do?

The Digi Comms Director will work to fill the youth messaging gap in Pennsylvania by developing a digital messaging strategy tailored to the lived experiences of Pennsylvania college students. In cooperation with the State Director, national partners, and the state comms hub, they will develop Project 26's communications strategy for the year and work to stand up, manage, and scale a digital organizing program on our key campuses across Pennsylvania. The Digital Manager will be expected to live and work in the state.

Responsibilities Include:

Develop and scale creative digital programming to reach students on all key campuses across Pennsylvania and persuade them to vote for offices up and down the ballot in November. This program will include, but is not limited to: Setting ambitious, trackable, and achievable team goals for digital engagement.

Creating structures for distributed content creation.

Developing organic and paid social media plans.

Ensuring consistent messaging across platforms and accounts.

Ensuring cross-amplification between team personal and professional accounts.

Meet regularly with the Organizing team to collaborate, pivot, and strategically adapt programming to achieve our collective goals.

Coordinate a robust polling and research plan in coordination with team leadership and state and national partners.

Prepare and lead trainings on digital organizing, messaging & persuasion, and social media strategy.

Implement clear procedures & adhere to established standards to ensure consistent digital presence and a clear line of sight to the stories and voices on the ground.

Streamline and support individual campus initiatives, stunts, and events.

Maintain weekly internal messaging memo outlining key comms guidance.

Take initiative to build trust with and establish regular coordination with key stakeholders and partners.

Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers to execute digital programming.

All other duties as assigned

Who Are You?

As a successful candidate for this job, you will have most of the following: Have at least 2 cycles of digital and/or comms experience, with a strong preference for at least 1 cycle of experience developing and leading digital programming for a statewide audience. Campus organizing experience is a plus, but not required.

Have at least 1 cycle of experience managing a team.

Have a passion for inspiring and empowering young people to get involved in the political process.

Be excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective GOTV tactics.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to communicate priorities in both 1:1 and group settings; especially as applied to building a strong, inclusive management culture that is solutions-oriented and positive for all staff members.

A strong understanding of Google Suite, Scale to Win, and VAN, social media strategy, and an eagerness to use data to coach staff. Be prepared to learn new systems! Our digital program will collaborate with Megaphone, a new tool for amplifying strong storytelling through social media.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work long, irregular hours; including weekends.

Attention to detail, highly developed organizational skills, and the ability to communicate with stakeholders across all levels of our organization, both verbally and in writing.

Be able to work weekends and irregular hours as required.

Be located in or be willing to relocate to Pennsylvania.

Job Details: The compensation for this role will start at $7,250 per month and includes health benefits, 401K, and a technology stipend. This is a full time, exempt role.

We are an equal opportunity employer and we strongly encourage Black, indigenous, people of color, women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.
