**Job Summary**

Provides customer service and administrative support to industrial permitting activities in the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Water Quality Division.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

+ Contacts customers and applicants about individual renewal permit applications, aggregate production operation (APO) registrations, general permit notices and permit by rule authorization applications; ensures completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal rules, policies, and guidelines.

+ Assists with preparation of letters, responses and notices for individual renewal permits; generates registrations for APOs and authorization certificates for general permits.

+ Updates application and permit data in various databases.

+ Answers incoming calls from both internal and external agency customers regarding agency policies and procedures, status of applications, or billing concerns

+ Assists with rule and policy questions from applicants, their representatives, and the public via phone and email.

+ Performs other duties assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year complex administrative support experience or high school diploma or equivalent with five (5) years of increasingly responsible administrative, secretarial and clerical experience; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted as appropriate.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Experience answering, screening, and routing phone calls and emails.

+ Helping customers with technical questions.

+ Data entry and preparing correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

+ Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures; computer usage; customer service principles; business terminology; spelling; and grammar.

+ Solid working database entry ability with capacity to learn the functions, programs and policies of the TCEQ.

+ Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external customers verbally and in writing

+ Comparing data and information to determine discrepancies.

+ Maintaining records in accordance with institutional paper and electronic file management requirements; documenting work accurately.

+ Troubleshooting problems; and resolving customer inquiries in accordance with institutional standard operating procedures.
