POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Software Design Expert
A Software Design Expert assumes responsibility for shaping advanced platforms and intricate systems. The expert dissects intricate application designs into more digestible components, facilitating effective management.
The professional establishes precise development pathways by selecting standardized development methods and crafting or selecting application frameworks. The focus is on promoting code/component reusability through a comprehensive understanding of the broader system environment, infrastructure technologies, and driving component design. Documentation, modeling, and communication of these concepts to developers and IS team members are integral aspects of the role.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & CRITICAL FUNCTIONS In addition to the responsibilities of a Senior Developer:
Collaborates with IS leadership to establish technology strategies and directions.
Guides the design of intricate platforms and systems by engaging in discussions with various stakeholders, researching technologies, methodologies, and products. Documentation, including various UML artifacts, is generated to outline design choices and reasoning.
Communicates designs, models, Application Program Interfaces, standards, diagrams, and plans to a diverse audience. Clear documentation in text and diagrams, tailored to the audience, is a significant focus.
Stays informed about technologies, languages, products, platforms, and tech trends influencing innovation for the organization.
Leadership: Acts as a catalyst for change, leading IS initiatives and strategies. Provides leadership in enhancing technical knowledge within the organization, preparing training materials, and conducting sessions. Leads negotiations on technical philosophies, techniques, and technologies.
Communication: Effectively communicates information to business executives, stakeholders, and project teams. Produces quality visualizations of current and proposed system states and connections.
Business Acumen: Understands and aligns IS project strategies with the business mission, strategy, and processes. Cultivates positive relationships with business teams.
Technical Acumen, Design, and Architecture: Promotes adherence to corporate policies, procedures, standards, and reference documentation. Aligns technology solutions with business strategies, consulting on major projects to ensure alignment. Evaluates and recommends architecture changes based on tech and business trends.
Production Support: Assists in troubleshooting complex system problems, providing leadership in stabilizing systems and reducing new problems. Offers after-hours/weekend/holiday support as needed.
Requirements
SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS
Proficient in planning, designing, documenting, and developing high-quality computer programs and system integrations.
Maintains a comprehensive map of IS systems for use in architecture plans, education, and project planning.
Extensive knowledge and experience in software development across multiple languages and platforms.
Experience in reading, developing, and troubleshooting software in various languages.
General knowledge of computer technology beyond software development.
Ability to understand business needs and recommend solutions with a best practices approach.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical subjects.
Proficient in Unified Modeling Language (UML) for design and project work.
Familiarity with a variety of SDLC methodologies, including Waterfall and Agile (e.g., Scrum).

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in a related field (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics) with four years of active software development work experience. Alternatively, 8+ years of active software development work experience in lieu of a degree.
