General Summary of Position About MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's Pediatric Transplant Unit - C5-1 C5-1 is a 15 bed state-of-the-art Pediatric Transplant Unit, serving patients receiving care for life-saving organ transplants, including liver, small bowel and multi-organ transplants (liver, stomach, small bowel, kidney, pancreas and colon).As one of only seven centers that perform pediatric small bowel and multi-visceral organ transplants, the Transplant Center for Children is the nation's third largest transplant program. In fact, we perform five times as many transplants as the average transplant program.Our Pediatric Transplant Team provides complex medical and surgical care for patients regionally, nationally and internationally. Our team is notable for its high success rates, history of innovation, cohesive teamwork and family-friendly approach to the transplant process. The nurses on C5-1 work in collaboration with physicians, registered dieticians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social workers, physical/occupational/speech therapists, clinical technicians and child-life specialists to deliver high-quality care, transplant-focused care. Through the help of our full-time Clinical Educator, our nurses are trained to care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring, high-risk medications and in-depth discharge teaching. The nursing team on C5-1 is a highly educated and motivated group of professionals who actively participate in shared governance, continuing education, and attend regional and national conferences.Flexible PRN Per-Diem Scheduling! Must work at least 6 shifts in a 6 week scheduling period, including 4 night or weekend shifts. Position Summary The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Medstar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards. \r\r Primary Duties and Responsibilities PRACTICE and QUALITY\rProvide relationship-based care that promotes continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process.\rDemonstrates professional practice utilizing the framework of the professional practice model and is grounded in a culture of safety and quality.COMMUNICATION and COLLABORATION\rCommunicates and collaborates with interprofessional groups to ensure coordination, continuity, and safe care.Communicates verbal information and documents are written and electronic information that reflects the planned and delivered care for patients.LEADERSHIP\rSupports and contributes to the unit, department, and organizational goals inclusive of the mission, vision, and values.\rDemonstrates advocacy and support on behalf of interprofessional teams and patients.\rDelegates and supervises nursing staff in providing patient care and assumes leadership roles, e.g., charge nurse role.\rParticipates in the development and implementation of quality activities.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Serves as a preceptor or mentor.\rParticipates in professional development activities.\rIncorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery. \r\r \r Minimum Qualifications EducationAssociate's degree in Nursing required Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing preferred \r ExperienceAt least two (2) years recent acute care experience in the relevant patient care area required \r Licenses and CertificationsRN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required BLS - Basic Life Support required Certification in specialty or related specialty preferred \r Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to perform the nursing technologies.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to set priorities and work under stress. \r\r Why MedStar Health?
