The Assistant Medical Director is part of the primary care clinical care team at the Student Health Centers. Staff physicians diagnose and treat a variety of illnesses and injuries in a college/university population. Staff physicians are credentialed and privileged to perform their duties according to Student Health Center policies and procedures. This position supports the core mission of The Student Health Centers, which is to promote physical health and wellness of students while they are in pursuit of higher academic education and achievement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge using electronic health records and computerized medical programs. Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records.
• Proven clinical competence in providing out-patient procedures.
• Demonstrated knowledge of counseling experience with patients on medical and/or psychological problems, preventive care. Refers patients for medical and/or other treatment when appropriate or indicated.
• Ability to consult with outside clinical providers and public health agencies in securing treatments for patients requiring services beyond those available at the Tulane Student Health Centers.
• Demonstrated ability in all care, ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain professional affiliations, licenses, certifications, etc.
• Skills in providing exemplary patient care and customer service including maintaining confidentiality and being reliably available to patients when they seek care or advice.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Licensed provider (MD or DO), completed an accredited post-doctoral residency program in Family Medicine, Pediatrics or Internal Medicine, be Board eligible in a primary care specialty, and be eligible for licensure in the state of Louisiana.
Preferred Qualifications
• Board certification in a primary care medical specialty.
• Experience providing in-service medical education to clinical staff.
• 1 year of experience in a clinical out-patient setting.
• 1 year of experience providing medical care in a college health setting.
• Experience supervising health profession students and trainees.
• Clinical competence in providing out-patient procedures including but not limited to: Incision and drainage, removal of foreign bodies, laceration care, wound care, fluorescein eye exams, and liquid nitrogen treatment for select dermatologic conditions.
• Stays current on developments in the field of medicine and college health.
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 29PREM.
