Description/Job Summary

The Director, Planning and Policy Development supports the successful operations of ASHP policy development activities, including ASHP council and House of Delegates processes for the purposes of advancing ASHP's strategic priorities. Has responsibility for developing/maintaining budget, work tools, processes, systems, and program protocols to ensure successful operation of ASHP councils and House of Delegates. Responsible for successful operation of all editorial aspects of development and dissemination of ASHP professional policy documents (best practices, guidelines, statements, and reports).

This position will be based onsite in our Bethesda, MD office, and the employee in this role will be working in a hybrid environment, consistent with Association-wide ASHP policies applicable to HQ-based employees. What You'll Be Doing:

+ Collaborates and coordinates with cross-functional or interdisciplinary drafting teams on the establishment of key policies and procedures to achieve desired outcomes/results.

+ Determines, executes, and creates a new program(s) and service(s) as part of ASHP collaborative teams. Works with ASHP members and staff, various stakeholders, and business partners to reach consensus or agreement on program delivery, policy process operational policies, and resource/tool needs.

+ Ensures successful execution of the ASHP policy development activities of ASHP policy committees and the ASHP House of Delegates, including budgeting, meeting management, and oversight of policy development processes.

+ Envisions, plans, prepares, executes, and reports on trends in healthcare delivery that have a bearing on pharmacy practice and policy committee activities, including agenda and issue brief development, meeting preparation, policy drafting, and reporting.

+ Envisions and executes all editorial elements of professional policy documents; ASHP strategic planning and policy implementation reporting documents; and sunset review of ASHP policy documents by ASHP councils, Board of Directors, and House of Delegates.

+ Directs development of editorial and production templates for ASHP professional policy documents; performs substantive editing and copyediting; and coordinates peer review of draft documents.

+ Directs and edits the publication of ASHP Best Practices and ASHP Policy Positions. Prepares and submits final approved documents for online and/or print publication inAJHP, ASHP Best Practices, the ASHP website, and other outlets.

+ Supports ASHP strategic planning, advocacy, and communications initiatives by researching issues, analyzing data, and compiling reports on healthcare policy of ASHP and other organizations. Uses research and analysis for development of documents for use by the ASHP policy committees, Board of Directors, House of Delegates, and staff.

+ Coordinates production and web posting of all documents used by delegates to the House; performs onscreen projection of proposed policy amendments during House deliberation; drafts and edits changes to the memorandum to the Board on Actions of the House; and reviews language of policies approved by the House document.

+ Identifies, develops, and maintains strategic relationships with relevant staff of external organizations, including coalitions, in accordance with relevant ASHP policies.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to ASHP:

+ Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, with a major in English, Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Public Administration/Policy, Public Health, or a related field.

+ ELS certification preferred but not required.

+ Requires a minimum of five years of prior related work experience writing and editing medical, scientific or healthcare copy required.

+ Experience writing and editing medical, scientific or healthcare policy preferred.

+ Ability to organize complicated work in an efficient manner and prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.

+ Ability to do careful, accurate, detailed work.

+ Strong ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines required.

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.

+ Excellent writing and editing skills.

+ Copy editing and review skills.

+ Budgeting and expense management skills.
