Building Community at Harvard

Faculty Affiliates: Support and facilitate collaboration among the Faculty Affiliates, fostering a sense of community and connection. Oversee the strategy of engagement and communication across the center’s 50 faculty affiliates; facilitate connections around areas of overlapping research, interest, and programming to further the work of the center.

Event Strategy: Develop strategy, standards and calendar for on-campus and virtual events, roundtables, speaker series, study groups, seminars, open houses and more.

Fellows, Delegations, and Visitors. Organizing and hosting visiting delegations and dignitaries setting agenda, liaising with partners across the university as necessary, and managing follow up.

Global Learning Collaborations and Community

Knowledge Transfer: Lead the effort and strategy to help peer institutions and other organizations supporting cities leverage the Center and Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative’s assets. Transfer knowledge to peer organizations, and share Bloomberg Harvard practices, curriculum, and research.

Global Learning Community: Forge collaborations with centers, institutions, and entities within and beyond Harvard to further the Center’s mission. Find opportunities to bring learnings back to our organization to influence our approach.

Annual Academic Conference: Oversee development of an annual academic conference convening scholars working on management, leadership and governance in cities.

Collaboration Development. Lead and/or support exploratory conversations with other organizations and leaders concentrating on city leadership, governance, and management.

Advisor to Faculty Director

Strategy advisement: Provide strategic support and analysis to the faculty director in managing external relations and strategic planning; act as a strategic thought partner to center leadership; advise on internal and external projects, meetings, convenings and programs.

Administrative leadership. Oversee the office of the faculty director, including the work of the Senior Executive Associate, to manage information flow, oversee development of agendas and briefing materials.

Teamwork: Foster and contribute to a culture of excellence grounded in learning, problem solving, and teamwork. Collaborate with colleagues to identify recommendations for improvements.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the faculty Director, they will build and nurture a community of scholars, students and practitioners . The Seni or Director will be responsible for the planning, development, oversight and execution of the center-wide strategy related to developing collaborations and a community across Harvard University and beyond . Leading a team of four direct reports , t he Senior Director will be responsible for organizing activities that advance research and exchange ideas that help city leaders make change in practice.
