Job Description 1 Mission:
Designs and builds relational databases in a multi-system 24x7 environment. Develop strategies for data acquisitions, backups, archive recovery, and general implementation of a database for testing and production use. Cleans and maintains databases by removing and deleting old data, building indexes, installing updates, and optimizing for performance. Evaluate software tools to facilitate database support. Act as liaison with vendors and interface with MIS staff for application development and daily support activities. Keep informed of current information technology and business applications.
Duties:
1. Create, maintain, document, and manage a stable database environment for production and development systems including Process Control, ERP, HR, data collection, and miscellaneous applications.
2. Administration of relational database software including:
- Version installation, patches, and upgrades.
- Create database structures, design and implement files, tables, security, and processes.
- Provide problem resolution in routine and emergency situations.
- Develop and monitor procedures for database backup and recovery.
- Support data conversions.
- Capacity planning, performance optimizing and monitoring.
3. Assist with HP-Unix system administration including:
- Version installation, patches, and upgrades.
- 3rd party software support.
- Create and maintain shell scripts.
- Maintain directories and file systems for test and production environments utilizing SAN technology and data backup/restore systems.
- Migration of applications from test to production environments.
- System security.
- Capacity planning, performance optimizing and monitoring.
- Provide problem resolution in routine and emergency situations.
4. Consulting with MIS Management on strategic directions.
5. Contribute and conform to the development and execution of MIS policies and procedures including SOX.
5. Contributes to the applications development standards and procedures at the department and division level.
6. Off-shift and weekend database, application, and systems support.
7. Disaster recovery planning and testing.
Requirements:
1. Education: B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent training and experience. Formal training and certification in Oracle database administration.
2. Preferred Six years of experience as an Oracle DBA in medium to large information technology infrastructure. Formal training and/or experience in application development.
3. Demonstrated experience in Process Control & MRP systems, emphasis placed on working knowledge of Visibility and PCC’s custom process control applications.
4. Demonstrated ability to apply new technology and concepts to existing infrastructure.
5. Proven project management skills.
6. Proven problem solving skills.
7. Excellent typing skills.
8. Extensive background with the following environments, hardware, and software:
- Hardware: HP4000, HPRP7410, HPRP7420, EMC Clariion, Fiber switches, PCs.
- Operating Systems: HP-UX 11.x, Windows, Windows Server
- Databases: Oracle, SQL server.
- Support Tools: Data Protector, Glance Plus, Perfview, Navisphere.
- Languages: Micro Focus Cobol, Powerhouse, HP-UX shell scripts, PL/SQL, MS.net, Visual Basic, Delphi.
