Job Summary

Chicago State University ( CSU ) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair and Associate or Professor, Department of Social Work. This is a full time, 12-month teaching and administrative appointment. The Chair will report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and will oversee the entire Social Work department, which offers a Master of Social Work with a vision toward building a Bachelor's in Social Work program. CSU is seeking a dynamic leader with a passion for and a commitment to student success and faculty development to serve in this important role. Applicants should have a proven track record of social justice leadership, innovative research, effective teaching and mentorship, meaningful service, and effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Successful candidates will have demonstrated high ethical standards and are expected to operate in a transparent and collegial way. Additionally, successful candidates should be responsive to the needs of faculty, staff, and students within the Department. Job Description

The MSW Program mission and goals are developed in relation to the university and the community it serves and are compatible with the university's mission. The mission of the Masters Social Work Program at Chicago State University is to prepare graduate social work students for a life-long commitment to competent, evidence informed, principled, strengths-based, trauma- informed, and family-centered social work practice; leadership and service to urban communities; addressing human rights issues including social, racial, and economic injustice; and a spirit of inquiry.

Responsibilities:

Serve as official representative to the Council on Social Work Education ( CSWE ), overseeing all accreditation related matters, and provide leadership through teaching, scholarship, curriculum development, administrative experience, and other academic and professional activities in social work.

Supervise MSW program faculty, recruit and develop faculty, monitoring workloads and performance.

Provide clear communication of duties and performance expectations that recognizes superior performance and addresses performance weaknesses; setting high standards for achievement in teaching, research, scholarship, service/outreach, and engagement.

Execute all job responsibilities and duties in full compliance with all applicable state mandates, university rules and Federal Compliance regulations. Position entails cooperation with the directives and initiatives of the Office of Compliance and its efforts to promote a culture of compliance throughout the university.

Oversee budget and manage program resources ethically and responsibly in accordance with the University policy.

Effectively steward Department resources; anticipating and planning accordingly for budgetary requirements; effectively and equitably allocating resources in support of research and scholarship, teaching, service, and engagement; and facilitating participation in entrepreneurial activities (research grants, centers, fee-for-service activities, online programming, etc.) to grow Department resources and/or meet program objectives.

In collaboration with faculty, plan, develop, and evaluate all courses and the overall curriculum.

Review and evaluate data from course and instructor evaluations, graduate exit interviews, alumni surveys, and employer surveys to ensure student outcomes and goals are achieved.

Maintain communication and coordination of the program with the faculty, clinical preceptors, and all individuals or disciplines involved with the program.

Develop and implement policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the program in accordance with the University's policies and procedures, including program admissions, retention, and completion to ensure fair, equitable, and considerable treatment of prospective and enrolled students.

Teach one required course in the curriculum in areas of expertise, using innovative instruction and technology in the development and delivery of the curriculum.

Engage across professional and disciplinary programs in inter-professional education to develop and grow the curriculum to ensure meaningful and collaborative opportunities in all aspects of the program.

Maintain professional competence through practice, continuing education, scholarship, and community service.

Represent the program to the community organizations.

Ensure adequate resources for systematically designing, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating field education.

Work with institutional advancement and other departments to enhance corporate, employer, alumni, and other stakeholder relationships, developing additional resource opportunities.

Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution with a specialization in Social Work or a closely related field and teaching experience.

Must hold an MSW degree for a CSWE accredited program.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills.

Demonstrated research abilities.

Excellent communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Has considerable teaching experience in an MSW program and has held administrative responsibilities within the department and or university.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to effectively contribute to the Department, College, and University teaching, scholarly, and service activities.

Demonstrated record of teaching and curriculum development.

Demonstrated record of individual initiative and originality in research.

Extensive experience in grant funding, and developing external partnerships is essential.

Proven ability to work with diverse department faculty, staff, students, and other personnel in academic settings is required.
