Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City's leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults through-out Manhattan and New York City. We work every day for a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives for themselves and their families.

Program Description: Goddard Riverside Community Center operates early childhood centers for working families and their children aged 2 to 5 years old. Each center facilitates classroom activities that promote intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth through the hands-on exploration of science, nature and art.

Purpose of Position: The role of the Family Worker/Family Advocate is to provide a mixture of individual and group interventions with parents, caregivers, children and young people with additional needs up to the thresholds for social care involvement to improve outcomes for children and families. To work in partnership with parents to strengthen parental capacity and family relationships and to increase parental engagement in their local community and in their children's education.

Schedule: Monday through Friday between 7:30 am to 6:00 pm (7.5 hour shift)

Salary: $31,200- $35,485

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties

Supporting families to develop formal and informal networks of support, helping families identify goals and track progress. The position will assist families with learning about existing services to support individual needs and navigating complex systems as well as supporting families to develop formal and informal networks for social capital. The incumbent must be detail oriented and have the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Outreach and recruitment, Intake and enrollment, eligibility determination and maintain active waitlist; keep waitlist families engaged.

Monitor and document attendance.

Obtain and maintain children's health records.

Co-develop and conduct parent workshops.

Coordinate home visits

Develop an Individualized Family Partnership Agreement (IFPA) with each family as needed.

Facilitate monthly classroom meetings, taking notes and attendance for review/follow up.

Develop partnerships with outside agencies that can provide assistance to our families.

Identify resources, initiate referrals and interventions as needed.

Assist families with navigating the CPSE process.

Work with ECE team on Kindergarten Transition.

Comply with Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements.

Some travel required to city agencies.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements High School Diploma minimum, some college preferred or Family Development Credential (or ability to register within 6months and acquire within a year of hire)

Knowledge of working with children and families through multi-generational approach

Experience providing services to children and families in diverse communities.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Ability to work with multi-lingual families.

Knowledge of best practices in delivery quality early care and education with family engagement

Physical Requirements Typical Lifting, bending, walking, climbing stairs as needed in a preschool environment.

Ability to interact with small children and families.

Medical clearance to perform job without limitations.

Work Environment Office environment

Community fairs, tabling, gatherings for participant recruitment

Home visits as needed.

("Local 205"),. The union represents employees in the bargaining unit (i.e. Goddard employees in Local 205 union positions). The Collective Bargaining Agreement is a written contract that defines the agreed-upon terms and conditions of employment, including wage increases, paid time off and other benefits, and the grievance process. All employees in Local 205 union positions at Goddard Riverside are subject to and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Membership in the union includes the collection of union dues on a monthly basis, to be deducted from the member's Goddard paycheck at a rate to be determined by the union.
