Duties and Responsibilities Utilize geographic information systems (GIS) software to collect, manage, analyze, and visualize geospatial data. Conduct field surveys using GPS equipment to collect spatial data. Analyze environmental data sets, including land use, topography, soil types, and vegetation, to support environmental assessments and planning. Produce maps, charts, and visualizations to support environmental impact assessments, land management, and regulatory compliance. Develop and maintain spatial databases to organize and store geospatial data. Interpret satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and LiDAR data to identify environmental features and changes over time. Use remote sensing techniques to monitor environmental conditions and trends, such as deforestation, urban sprawl, and habitat loss. Develop spatial models and simulations to assess the potential impacts of proposed land use changes, infrastructure projects, and environmental policies. Conduct spatial analyses, such as suitability modeling and spatial interpolation, to identify optimal locations for conservation or development activities. Provide technical support and training to project team members and stakeholders on GIS software, data collection methods, and spatial analysis techniques. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, engineers, planners, and regulatory agencies, to integrate geospatial data into decision-making processes. Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and quality of geospatial data through rigorous quality assurance procedures. Document data collection protocols, analysis methodologies, and project findings in technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables. Assist in the preparation of environmental impact statements (EIS), environmental assessments (EA), and other regulatory documents required for environmental permitting. Review and interpret federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental planning, land use, and natural resource management. Qualifications 5 - 15 years of experience as a Geospatial Specialist. Must have a bachelor's degree in geology, environmental science, natural resource management or a related field. Other certifications/licenses are a plus. Good communication skills, both verbal and written Good problem solving skills and able to work well independently Proficiency in Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Access) May be required to undergo a standard background check along with verification of education requirements.
