Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Visual Resources Specialist to support our growing visual impact assessment and visualization services in the eastern United States. You will be an integral part of our team, with responsibility for project planning, impact assessment / technical analysis, and task coordination, with opportunities to support Stantec’s broad portfolio of clients who operate within the North American infrastructural landscape, including power generation, electrical transmission, and energy storage, among other markets.

The position can be based out of anywhere in the Northeast US region. Stantec offers flexible work hours and a robust compensation and benefits package.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Visual Resources Specialist, you will work under the direction of Stantec’s Visual Resources Practice Lead for the eastern U.S., applying your experience in technical writing and any of the following to production of visual impact assessments (VIA): site photography, task coordination, and / or creation of photo realistic simulations. You must have experience producing technical writing for assessments in support of permit applications or the like; experience in all of the areas listed above is not required but is highly beneficial.

This position requires a strong writer. It anticipates an organized task manager who can coordinate contributions from a technically diverse team (e.g., GIS and simulations specialists, unless these are part of your primary skillset). Stantec’s Visual Resources Specialists work with project managers, have direct contact with clients, and are expected to solve problems.

An ability to travel (typically no more than 10-20% annually but potentially for durations of up to a week) for project site visits is required of this role.

Your work as a Visual Resources Specialist may be supplemented with assignments providing general planning and permitting support for power generation and transmission siting and licensing projects or other environmental assessments. Examples of such work include desktop surveys, critical issues analyses, or plan consistency documents.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Required:

3 to 5 years of experience producing or substantially supporting the completion of VIAs. Someone with more years of experience may also be considered.

VIAs that haves been conducted within the context of compliance with state or federal environmental review criteria.

Strong research, analysis, and reporting ability. Strong writing and communication skills a must.

Ability to support multiple projects, focusing on details while also managing broader set of components.

Ability to read and interpret basic site layouts and plan schematics, topographic maps, aerial photographs, and other maps / map resources.

A commitment to producing high-quality work. A strong work ethic, a desire for team success, a willingness to learn, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Ability to perform fieldwork that involves walking over uneven terrain. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Experience in power generation, electrical transmission, battery storage, transportation, and / or utilities.

Preferred:

Experience producing VIAs required by the National Environmental Policy Act, State Environmental Quality Reviews, Article VII of the New York State Public Service Law, and Article 10 and Section 94-c applications.

Familiarity with federal agencies and their established methods for assessment of visual effects or impacts to scenery (e.g., BLM, FHWA, USFS), as well as those of any regional or state entities.

It is highly desirable to have experience / training in the following aspects / tools typically part of comprehensive VIA production: DSLR cameras (landscape photography); Autodesk 3ds Max (or the like for simulation / visualization production); and Adobe Creative Cloud (for document production).

Familiarity in the execution of shadow flicker analyses, using WindPro, for wind energy projects.

Education and Experience

BA/BS degree in Landscape Architecture; Urban, Regional or Environmental Land Use Planning; Environmental Science / Studies or a related field.

The role requires a mix of jobsite and office functions, and travel may be required. Time spent in the office environment will include prolonged sitting and computer work. Time spent in the jobsite environment will involve standing for long periods of time, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

$57,100.00 - $82,800.00 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
