Position description

The Department of Nutrition in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nutrition with a preferred emphasis in nutritional biology and human research interventions in health and disease. This is an academic year (9-month), tenure track Assistant Professor position that includes an appointment in the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). Faculty members who hold an Agricultural Experiment Station appointment have a responsibility to conduct research and outreach relevant to the mission of the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). Participation in outreach programs and performance of University service are also expected.

The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in clinical nutrition to address critical or emerging issues in nutrition and dietetics, with focus on human nutrition interventions to promote health and mitigate disease risk. The appointee will be responsible for teaching two to three courses each year, contributing to curricular development, and providing undergraduate and graduate student advising and mentoring. The appointee will teach Nutrition 116BL (Clinical Nutrition Practicum) for senior undergraduate dietetics students in our ACEND accredited program. Additionally, they will develop 1-2 new graduate courses in clinical nutrition and health promotion for master's level students. Participation in and development of public outreach and/or community engagement programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. This position is expected to collaborate with Cooperative Extension specialists and advisors, partners in allied industries, or other appropriate public stakeholders.

The department is seeking applicants with expertise in human clinical trials, which may include nutrition assessment, monitoring and evaluation of dietary intervention effectiveness in a variety of physiologic conditions, health outcome biomarkers and health equity. Examples of relevant conditions include obesity, diabetes, kidney, gastrointestinal, cardiometabolic, and/or neurodegenerative diseases. The appointee is expected to possess a strong clinical nutrition and dietetics background in mechanistic or translational human nutrition research that will advance the field of precision health and improve nutrition recommendations for diverse populations. Research should be closely aligned with a key departmental focus on mechanisms and biomarkers of health and disease, in addition to the 2020-2030 NIH Nutrition Research Strategic Plan goals of defining the role of nutrition across the lifespan for healthy aging and reducing the burden of disease in clinical settings.

This recruitment is conducted at the Assistant Professor rank. The resulting hire will be at the Assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Initial review of applications will be conducted using anonymized versions of the Statement of Research Accomplishments and Interests and the Statement of Contributions to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Applications demonstrating sufficient potential based on this review will be advanced to full review.
