As an Engineer at CoStar Group, you will be working on highly visible applications used by millions of consumers across CoStar Groups subsidiaries.  Our product group in Austin, TX is currently seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer II to join our team in supporting continual growth and development of our industry leading Apartments.com, ApartmentFinder.com, ForRent.com and ApartmentHomeLiving.com web sites.  Work together with a ‘startup-minded’ development team delivering innovative web and business applications.  Work is conducted using Ruby on Rails, C#, Python, and JavaScript, with most project code running on Linux.  Applications are backed by SQL Server and a rich ecosystem of ETL processes, data caching, and application support architecture.

Responsibilities

Development of website and software using the above-mentioned technologies.

Building applications with innovative use of open-source software.

Best-practice software engineering for performance, maintainability, and stability.

Design and development of AJAX components.

Competence with Git or similar version control system and experience with SDLC.

Ability to work well in a team environment.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited, not-for-profit university or college.

A track record of commitment to prior employers.

4+ years of web development experience on any platform.

2+ years of experience using a language such as Ruby on Rails, C#, Python, or PHP.

Competence on a Linux development stack.

Experience using cloud components/Amazon EC2.

Demonstrated competence with T-SQL/general SQL.

Demonstrated creativity and problem solving.

Proficiency with JavaScript

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Strong opinions about software design and architecture

Ability to visualize and explain complex ideas and build agreement around those ideas with an experienced technical team.

High level proficiency in web applications development.

Strong knowledge of technical ecosystems & architecture (dev-ops, caching strategies, networking, performance optimization, network topologies, load balancing, SDLC practices)

Strong JavaScript development skills.

Flexibility to move back and forth between detailed collaboration or independent engineering work.
