Life Underwriter
Job Summary:
The Underwriter is a junior-level underwriter who is fully trained with a minimum of two years of underwriting or related experience to approve cases up to a specific standard and substandard limits.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Underwrite individual life insurance applications, within guidelines set for the issuance of policies on a standard or substandard basis
Determine whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of an individuals medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest, and other information pertinent to the decision
Has contact with the field force to gather information on which to base decisions
Consult with superiors or medical department concerning any questionable medical or personal situations
Superiors review cases requiring higher ratings or amounts in excess of prescribed limits
Required Skills/Abilities:
Analytical skills and computational aptitude
Sound judgement
Negotiation and interpersonal skills
Education and Experience:
Minimum 2 years of underwriting or related experience
Bachelors degree preferred
Fluent in English and Spanish, a plus
Complete LOMAs Certificate in Underwriting
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Schedule and Salary Range:
Full-time, in-office position
Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. 4:45 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,800 annually
