Description

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Area Operations Manager consist of, but are not limited to, the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

1. Operations

Oversee contract values, budget, projected cost, change orders, billing and collections. Hold teams accountable to these being accurate and managed correctly.

Monitor job progress to ensure that goals for budget, schedule and customer satisfaction are attained.

Guide project teams on major issues regarding customers, schedules, and key performance indicators.

Participate in project closeout process.

2. Field Production

Partner with the General Superintendent to develop field personnel capabilities to ensure the workforce has the skills necessary to perform efficiently including technical skills, technological skills, collaboration, etc.

Maintain effectiveness and morale of the field force though visible leadership. Communicate Company vision/goals and monitor field activities to assure that work is being performed accordingly.

Verify that the field force conforms to Company standards for labor reporting and other administrative requirements.

3. Preconstruction & Resource Management

Participate in the selection process for project teams including Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Superintendent, Foreman, etc., as applicable, for each project. Ensure individual strengths represent required skill sets for overall project success.

Lead strategic discussions on how to improve profit margins. Ensure project teams are seeking profit opportunities through better means and methods, proper sequencing and increased productivity.

Develop adequate manpower resources, numbers and skills inventory.

4. Other Duties

Ensure discipline to LEAN in your region.

Assist in development and implementation of standard process and procedures.

Serve as point of contact to the appropriate locals of the trade unions.

Implement and enforce the Safety Program in conjunction with the Risk and Safety team.

Coordinate training for foreman either formally, or on the job, in safety, administration, project management and human relation issues. Work with company resources.

Meet with customers to ensure that processes are effective and to build lasting relationships.

Promote proactive management to team through leadership, organization, discipline, goal setting and use of polices and procedures.

Represent KHS&S at industry, community and customer events.

Partner with estimating by providing feedback on outgoing proposals.

Verify that estimating group receives accurate feedback from Project Management through project post-analysis regarding construction methods, production rates and real project conditions.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or Architecture.

Experience: Required 15 years in operations, project management or field management as Project Superintendent or better.

Skills: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure. General accounting and construction knowledge preferred.

Physical: Includes sitting, standing, reaching, walking; use of hands, arms, legs, and feet. Must be able to see and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations.

Communication: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate effectively and positively with customers, vendors and employees.

Computer: Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with accounting and/or project management software preferred.
