About the Role

The Infrastructure Engineer will be part of the infrastructure engineering & operations team that designs, engineers, implements, and maintains The New York Times Global Terrestrial and Cloud Infrastructure and its Identity platform.

You will automate operational processes, continually improve the NYT IT infrastructure design to engineer solutions that address evolving needs and provide a secure and highly available computing platform. In addition, you will configure and maintain existing infrastructure components, implement upgrades, use management tools to monitor and report on the reliability of the environment. You will report to the Associate Director, Infrastructure Services.

Responsibilities:

You will design and build solutions to standardize and automate our virtualized and cloud-based platforms, configurations and administration procedures.

You will independently research and provide both business and technical solutions based on and related to customer needs and specifications and deploy them into our production infrastructure.

You will monitor, test and analyze the existing infrastructure environment and optimize it based on resiliency, technological advancements, and cost.

You will evaluate new technologies and create alpha/beta releases, and determine the viability and suitability of existing technologies.

You will produce documentation of use cases, business and technical solutions, and overall technology concepts—and assist in writing reference architecture papers to explain how expedient products can be used to solve specific business challenges.

You will present to and solicit feedback from application, development, and operations teams.

You will adopt new technology, solution improvements, and updates to existing technology.

You will occasionally travel in support of implementations and operations.

Basic Qualifications:

3-5 years of progressive professional experience in IT.

Experience with cloud-based deployments on AWS and GCP Cloud Platforms.

Knowledge of DevOps tools such as Version Control (Git or similar), CI/CD Tools (Drone, Jenkins), Orchestration tools (Ansible, Puppet), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloudformation).

Experience with Linux and Windows Operating Systems, and virtualization platforms.

Understanding of foundational enterprise technologies such as DNS, Syslog, LDAP, and monitoring tools such as Datadog & PRTG.

Coding/scripting experience in one or more languages ex. Python, PowerShell, Perl, or Bash.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent relevant experience supporting IAM platforms such as Azure AD/Entra ID.

Experience with Single Sign-On (SSO) concepts and implementations.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$130,000 — $140,000 USD
