Job Description
At the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School our mission is to help our students develop to their full potential in a welcoming and nurturing environment that fosters strong academic achievement and positive connections to the larger community and the world they will lead. Our founders, led by Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School is committed to addressing educational equity and seeks to build a strong community of learners and educators through the implementation of Antiracist and Restorative Practices. We are excited to collaborate with our students, teachers, staff, and families to do this important work.
Our Academy Leaders participate in one week of professional development in August and one additional school day at the end of the school year. Students attend school from 9:15 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Academy Leaders are expected to be present in the building from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each school day. The Academy Leader acts as the liaison among teachers, staff, parents, the Parent Council, business and community partners, out of school time programs, school-based teacher leadership teams, and the administrative team.
Instructional Support Responsibilities
Provide instructional support for beginning and veteran teachers.
Assist teachers with schedules, assessments, planning and implementing differentiated lessons that maximize resources and reflect researched-based practices.
Participate in educator development & feedback cycles as an evaluator.
Keep staff informed and seek ideas for the improvement of the school.
Work with Content Team Facilitators and individual faculty to ensure that the curriculum appropriately challenges and meets the needs of Frederick students.
Ensure maintenance of effective routines for monitoring student growth and progress.
Evaluate teacher effectiveness based on Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teacher Practice & maintain
Support the integration of technology within classrooms and the inclusion of all students in appropriate placements
Leadership
Uphold standards for school culture and performance in alignment with culturally proficient and antiracist practices .
Foster a school climate that supports the school’s mission; promote respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and parents.
Establish a professional rapport that earns respect from staff and students.
Support in the implementation of the school and district vision.
Serve as a role model for students and staff, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
Maintain visibility with students, staff, parents, and the community, attending school and community functions regularly to demonstrate a genuine interest in the students and staff.
Coordinates team efforts to celebrate and recognize student success.
Communicate with parents through a variety of methods; hold conferences as needed to discuss individual student’s progress and school programs
Support the solicitation of grant funds and manage implementation of grant based initiatives and evaluation procedures
Perform other related duties as requested by the Principal or the Governing Board
Student Support
Communication about absences and tardiness
Communicates daily with students, parents, and teachers regarding attendance and incidents of harm.
Coordinates and conducts appropriate conferences related to attendance, academics, and the restoration of harm.
Assist staff with student success plans in order to support interventions.
Coordinate student/family/team meetings and support family involvement.
Professional Development
Plans, leads, and participates in professional development opportunities for improved job performance.
Develop and facilitate school-wide staff development activities.
Assist in the coordination of all school-based professional development opportunities linked to individual professional development plans and job competencies.
Provide strategies and implement programs/practices for improving student achievement, classroom organization, and management.
Terms:
BASAS. Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School Academy Leaders should expect a longer school day and year, including summer professional development activities, as well as extracurricular involvement with students and parents beyond the school day.
Required:
Bachelor's Degree
Hold a Supervisor/Director OR Principal/Assistant Principal license
Minimum teaching experience of 3 years
Significant experience using technology to support teaching/learning, assessment, and productivity
Training regarding the implementation of an inclusive program
ESL certificate or SEI endorsement
Experience in the use of data in the decision-making of curriculum and teaching moves
Preferred:
M.ED
Experience with academic and compliance based support for diverse learners
Experience leading professional development activities
Experience in facilitation of whole-school improvement planning
