The Head of Medical Strategy provides medical expertise to the rheumatology commercial and medical teams and provides clinical and scientific guidance to the Medical Affairs team ensuring the successful implementation of the medical portion of the company’s plan for its products in the rheumatology space.

Derive strategic medical plans for marketed and late-stage pipeline products as part of an integrated strategic plan for asset portfolio management.
Compliantly contribute to the cross-functional organizational rheumatology strategy through collaboration with leadership in other areas such as clinical development, real-world evidence generation, publications, market access, sales, and marketing
Brainstorm science-related data needs and their communication channels and platforms
Assess need and ensure execution of key exploratory data analysis projects via liaison with Medical colleagues on Patient Solutions Teams (PSTs), Medical colleagues from other regions, and the Biostatistics group.
Provide medical review of grants and IIS proposals for rheumatology
Maintain therapeutic area expertise by collecting competitive intelligence and disease state info from both literature and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) via liaison with the Field Medical Team.
Build, maintain and nurture authentic scientific/medical engagement with both national and regional key opinion leaders.
Assess the need for planning and running Medical Advisory Boards within appropriate rheumatology customer base.
In collaboration with Medical Communications and Strategic Publications, manages the publication plan developed each year by the Global Medical Director in collaboration with the Patient Solutions Team (PST).
Ensure appropriate focus, timely preparation, review and submission of publications at scientific congresses
Quality assurance and review of medical materialsincluding brand promotional materials andinternal medical education resources
Provide input to global R&D to best represent patient unmet needs in development programs including pipeline assets.
You will contribute by:
Developing training materials and programs to ensure brand teams, sales training department and the medical teams have appropriate levels of expertise in relevant disease states and with relevant products
Accountability as a rheumatology scientific/medical expert and UCB products their relevant therapeutic indications
Reviewing topics for CME events related to relevant therapeutic areas and provides professional input for symposia development and key congresses in accordance with Company educational programs and scientific communications and publications policies
Developing partnerships with key opinion leaders to help determine existing data gaps and appropriate data mining programs forproducts with indications in therapeutic area; developing this feedback into an exploratory data analysis plan, approved by the Head of Medical Immunology and implemented in conjunction with PST and/or an external agency
Ensuring adherence by the team to regulatory and compliance policies and procedures within the therapeutic area and US Medical Affairs
Significant travel (approx. 40%), including international, required
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:
MD or DO degree is a preferred requirement
Preference for completion of rheumatology fellowship training program
Any additional scientific/medical training or experience in immunology related conditions is a plus.
Leadership and management along with employee development expertise is required
Able to build strategic workingrelationships with both diverse internal and external medical and scientific experts, as well as brand team members
Ability to think based on both business and scientific principles
Strong project management skills, including projects managed via a matrix organization
Self-motivated, proactive problem solver
Excellentinterpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills including presentation skills
